Sunday looks like this.....

Sunday we will resume where we left off.  Literally!  The wacky weather continues to challenge us.

Varsity, Girls and JV Black will resume their games, literally, by placing the disc where it was when the horn sounded.
Carpools and RV's will depart Lindbergh at 6:10am sharp!
Players cleated and ready to warm up at 6:50am.
Play resumes at 7:50am.

Silver carpools will depart Lindbergh  at 7:40am sharp!
Players cleated and ready to warm up at 8:20am.
Game at 9:20am.

Varsity will resume on field K1
Girls on field U3
JV Black on field J2
JV Silver on field F4

We are starting early to finish pool play and move forward into bracket play.
The girls final is scheduled at 1:30pm. (No time change) Hard cap at 3:00.
The boys final is scheduled at 3:20pm (moved from 3:30pm) Hard cap at 4:50pm.

Remember toasty DRY!  Rain gear, socks, socks and more socks and change them frequently.
It would be a smart move for everyone, players, parents and spectators to bring a towel to keep in the car for yourself.   Pack a change of clothes in a ziploc bag to change into for the ride home (the air conditioning is cold when clothes are wet and windows fog easily)

Field food bags are down to the crumbs :-(. This is the end of the season and will not be refilled for tomorrow. Please remember to bring extra food to fuel your body.

Weather delays are possible again tomorrow.  Think, dream, and wish for sun tomorrow.

State Tournament

Hurtems, Hertettes,

I know you think your coaches know that you plan to go to State, but we don't.  Right now we have 10 varsity Hurtems, 8 Hertettes, JV Black with 19 (awesome response guys), and JV Silver with 13.

Please sign up HERE if you're planning on attending.  We always prefer parent drivers, but if you're over 17 you can offer to drive.  Parents determine whether their kid is allowed as a passenger.  I'll repeat: if a parent driver is available, that parent driver will drive.  We prefer that parents drive whenever possible.

This is our last tournament of the year, so we hope everyone will make it a priority.

State SCHEDULE (check the tabs)
Captains meeting is at 7:45am on Saturday at HQ (near U2/Schwann's Center)
First round games start at 8:30am
All Hurtems should be at the NSC by 7:30am

Update: full schedule is also available on score reporter now:
Girls: http://play.usaultimate.org/events/Minnesota-High-School-Girls-State-Championships/schedule/Girls/High-School-x-High-School/
Boys: http://play.usaultimate.org/events/Minnesota-High-School-Boys-State-Championships/schedule/Boys/College-x-High-School/

Boys Varsity starts on I3
Ladies start on A4
JV Black on K4
JV Silver on L2

US Open - Volunteers Needed

Hurtems,

I know we have some time left yet this season, but there are some other exciting things happening this summer that I need to get out there.

Over the 4th of July, MN is hosting the US Open, a tournament featuring the top worldwide talent alongside a convention discussing all kinds of best practices and conversations from around the ultimate world.  http://www.usaultimate.org/usopen/

This is a huge event, and an awesome opportunity to show all these visitors what a wonderful ultimate community we have here.  Everyone should consider signing up to volunteer for a small job.  Score keeping and stat keeping are pretty fun, but some volunteers get access to a golf cart (just saying): http://mnyu.org/Volunteer.aspx

Be an ambassador to our program in a larger sense, watch good ultimate, be a part of a really important event.

P.S. I'm presenting at that convention.

FINAL BANQUET-AWARDS & ALUMNI GAME

The season is coming to a close and yet it feels as though it's only just begun.
It is HURTS tradition to end each season with a final banquet and awards ceremony.  We spend time together wrapping up the year, recognizing players of distinction and sending the seniors off to their new worlds.  We encourage 100% participation including parents and siblings.
This years format is a little different than last years.   We will be gathering at ~North Junior High at 6:00pm in the cafeteria for a "bring your own" dinner.  Think picnic style :-) which we can also do outside if the weather is decent.  ~Around 6:30 we will start the awards and recognization part of the evening (most likely in the cafeteria).
~There will be desserts (hopefully if you baked for Hustle you were able to freeze the goodies for final banquet!)  Plates, silverware and napkins will be provided.
~ New this year is a Banana Bread baking contest!  Players, parents, & coaches can all make their favorite Banana Bread recipe to be judged and then shared!  (Gluten free and nut free recipes are welcome to accommodate everyone)
~Following the banquet an Alumni Game in Hopkins High School Stadium, under the lights, will take place!  We would love everyone to stay and watch, we also know finals and school comes first.
~We will have MERCH for sale too!

Please signup with the signup genius. If you've already posted in the blog comments David Seffren moved your comments to the signupgenius.  No need to signup again!  Thanks David!
The link is on the sidebar to the right.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

A great week in the World of Hurt

Things that are awesome:

- Coach Pokey and his wife, Jamie, welcomed a baby girl yesterday: Jaden Dorothy Hunt.  Though an infant, Jaden already has both a dark and a light (not gray) Hurt onesie.

- Hurt Varsity Boys won the Central Regional tournament!  HERt finished 6th against some really great competition!  Lots of pictures were taken.

- Both varsity teams are playing in their respective Conference Finals this week.  These are very important games for State seeding.  Boys play tonight, 5/21, at the Edina Stadium at 6:30pm and the girls play Friday, 5/23, at the Benilde Stadium at 5:30pm.

- JV Silver is at Home this Thursday, playing St. Paul Central B.  6pm game time.  @HHS4

- JV Black is Away at Prior Lake B.  6pm game time.  Location
- JV coaches will let you know when you should arrive at the fields (5:15 is normal)

There are a lot of opportunities to spectate this week, and we would definitely appreciate all the family support available.

Details have been posted for Tuesday's activities.

It should be noted that HHS4 is large enough to accommodate both the Black practice and the Silver game.  JV Black players should head all the way over to the far east fence.  Silver players can set up camp by the Disc Golf "goal" - coaches will set up the rest.

Silver, please be there to warm up (cleats on) by 5:15pm.

Girls' Photos

For parents/friends/fans of HERt:

I took some photos of the Girls' game on Saturday as a gift to try and balance the disappointment of Hustle getting cancelled. If people would like to see them, they are here. Enjoy!

Hustle Cancelled/Postponed

Standing water is...annoying.

As we've said many times, safe playing conditions are a priority.  In this case when the fields are under water, safety cannot be assured.  Ben Feldman is currently trying to figure out what our options are.  Here is his post:

http://hopkinshustle.blogspot.com/2014/05/hopkins-hustle-2014-cancelledpostponed.html

It should be noted that one possible option is running this tournament next weekend (we know, it's Centrals).  The club has put a lot of energy and investment into this tournament, but this may possibly be the best answer.

A decision will be made shortly, but I wanted to let families know that we may put out a call for additional volunteers for next weekend so that we can still have a Hustle.  So keep that in mind, because we won't be able to run any tournament at all without volunteers.

Thanks for your understanding.  No one wants to cancel a tournament, but sometimes we have no choice.

Girls Game Cancelled

Sorry for the very late notice - Apple Valley thought they could make it work tonight, but then couldn't get enough girls to play. We'll try again next Thursday.

Silver game @Mtka postponed

Update 4pm:

Silver @Minnetonka is cancelled tonight.
Tentative plan is to play next Tuesday.

We're still going to attempt games at home and @Edina.

Games are on 5/8!!

As of 3pm, games are all on.

We will use our best judgment regarding lightning and safety.  Please park as closely as you can to your designated field and understand that if a Coach calls Lightning everyone must get into a car as quickly as possible.  Don't finish the point.  Don't worry about the cones.  Get in a car, or inside of Lindbergh Center/Tanglen/an adjacent building.

Parents!

Especially for our away games, it is important that we have a safe place for our kids to go if lightning is present.  Let's make sure there is a seat in a car for each Hurtem, and/or an identified building to go to.

If you want spectator tips, send me a note: erin.mirocha@gmail.com

This will be a true test of toasty warm.  Work together to stay safe.

Hurtems, if your jersey is clean after this, you're doing it wrong.
Erin

Oh, Weather

A couple things to remember as we all watch the radar.

1) no news is good news: we always assume the game is ON unless we hear otherwise
2) conference games are on a strict deadline.  We must play these games by Tuesday.
3) parent drivers should be aware that if there is lightning, we will sit and wait in vehicles.
4) as always, if Lindbergh decides the fields are not available, we will cancel games outright

As of 12:30, we have not heard from Lindbergh about facilities.  Coaches are in touch with our opponents for away games.  Everyone is in the same holding pattern: watch the sky, evaluate, decide.

Reminder that we play in everything except lightning and/or dangerous field/visibility conditions.
Toasty warm.

Busy week in the World of Hurt

The sidebar has been updated with activities this week.

This week begins conference play for all teams.  Our opponents are always going to be determined by the results of the week prior.  We'll publish as soon as we can, but feel free to look at http://www.mnyu.org/Seasons.aspx if you're curious about our options.

Here are a few notes:

- Boys are in the Lake Conference, which includes mostly local teams (for carpool purposes)
- The top seed in the match up is the "home team"
- Conference results matter for State seeding

We also have Hustle this week.  Today (5/5) is the deadline on all Hustle related signups.  This is our home tournament, and it is very important that we do everything we can to make it run smoothly.  Each team will have responsibilities related to the tournament.

- Varsity will be setting up the fields on Friday
- The rest of the teams will have responsibilities during the tournament weekend.

I know it's mother's day weekend, but we expect that every Hurtem that signed up to play will stay until our TD dismisses all players from the site.

We'll see you out there!
