FALL 2013/2014 REGISTRATION MEETING
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

The fall season is here!

  We will be holding our fall registration meeting on Wednesday September 18, 2013 at 7:00 pm in room W230 at Hopkins High School.
This meeting is for any/all players and at least 1 parent who are interested in playing on any of the HUrt teams.  Whether your a  new player or a veteran of the Hopkins ultimate frisbee family, our fall meeting is full of important information.   We will cover registration, the  fall schedule,  practice's,  games,  tournaments, seasons, rules and regulations.

We will have all the paperwork, necessary to participate with Hopkins Ultimate Frisbee, available also.
 Erin Mirocha, our head coach,  myself, and several captains and coaches, will be available to answer questions.
 Dates/times for practices are already on the blog.  Fall tournaments will be posted soon!

The blog is your source of information for all things Hopkins Ultimate.

Please make it a priority to attend this meeting if your interested in playing ultimate frisbee with HUrt during the upcoming school year.  Every child should  have a parent with them at this meeting.

I'm  looking  forward to meeting  new players and excited to see familiar faces from previous years.

CAR WASH UPDATE

THE CAR WASH IS ON!
New start time is 10:45 A.M.
End time is 3:00 P.M.

Cub Foods parking lot at Hwy 7 and Hwy 101.

There is not a cap on how many players participate.
The girls team is ready to work.  They've made the signs to bring in the business.
We could use some more guys to balance the scales....
If you've got some time come out and help!  Bring some sponges and towels.
Tell your friends and neighbors to support Hopkins Ultimate by getting their car washed!

The next captains practice is this Thursday the 29th at Lions Park. Captains will start at 4:30 and go until 6:30. Bring anyone you know that goes to Hopkins and is interested in playing ultimate frisbee. Hope to see everyone there!

CAR WASH FUNDRAISER

Remember the car wash fundraiser we had to cancel because of SNOW!?!
We have another opportunity to try again.  And this time the forecast is SUNNY and HOT!  This is a fantastic, fun way to fundraise for HUrt. But before we lock in the date, we need a solid commitment from players and a few parents.   Ideally we would like to have 10 players and 1-2 parents per shift. 

 When we hit the magic numbers we will lock in the date.

Next 2 Captain's Practices

We had a great turn out on tuesday at our first captains practice! Our next 2 practices are Thursday the 22nd from 4:30-6:30 at Lions Park, and  the one after that will be on Sunday the 25h from 4:30-6:30 at Lions Park as well. Be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, a black shirt, white shirt, cleats, and disc if you have one. We hope to see everyone there!

Camp opportunity August 12th

USAU is hosting a one day camp with Coaches Kyle Weisbrod & Chase Sparling-Beckley (from the U20 US National Team) on Monday, August 12^th.

Boys and Girls age 13-18 are encouraged to attend.  Location: National Sports Center, Blaine, MN.

GV ultimate camp

Attention all Hopkins Hurt players 16 and under. Golden Valley Park & Rec hosts an ultimate camp that starts next Monday the 5th and ends on the 9th from 9 am to 3 pm at lions park. The camp is run by 4 Hopkins Hurt alumni. If you are interested visit the Golden Valley Park & Rec website to sign up.

YCC volunteers needed!

The Youth Club Championship tournament, a national tournament for high school ultimate players, is coming to Minnesota in three weeks, and we still need more volunteers to make this a successful event. It is being held on August 10th - 11th  2013 at the National Sports Center in Blaine. If you have some free time and any interest in supporting high school ultimate at this level (and helping to keep this event coming to our community), please go to http://mnyu.org/volunteer.aspxto sign up for the times you can help.

Primarily we need scorekeepers, but there are other opportunities listed on the registration page.

There are many Hopkins players on YCC teams this year, so come check out your fellow Hurtems take on the best youth talent in the world (seriously!)!

Oh, and I'll be there too coaching the YCC Mixed team.

Hope your summer is going well - remember that the summer is when you get better and watching high level ultimate is one of the best ways to do so.

- Coach tip: before you do anything above, let injuries heal completely

No matter what you do this summer, remember to be a noble warrior too - be good to your parents, love your brothers/sisters and represent HUrt/HERt well.

Bid for Peace

Hello Hurtems,

I wanted to share an exciting event with you that is taking place tomorrow (Saturday 6/8).  The Bid for Peace fundraiser begins at 6pm at Kix Field in Minneapolis. 

Feel free to come and play games, listen to music, and watch a sweet showcase game between Minnesota Wind Chill and Minneapolis SubZero which will start at 7:30pm

The team that shows up with the most players in jerseys will win FREE CHIPOTLE BURRITOS.  There will also be plenty of opportunities to buy sweet merchandise from our many sponsors like 5 Ultimate, VC Ultimate, Breakmark Ultimate, and more.

Bid for Peace is an event to support Ultimate Peace.  Ultimate Peace is an organization dedicated to building bridges of friendship, understanding and providing fun for youth from different social and cultural backgrounds around the world through Ultimate Frisbee

Family Reunion-Banquet 6/3

Tonight is our end of season event!

- The Alumni game will provide an opportunity for current players to play against Alumni.
- HERt and HUrt Varsity, along with any 11th/12th graders should bring their cleats, light/dark, water.
- We will play for about an hour, and vary between all-girl lines, mixed lines, and all-guy lines.

Banquet will follow.

Alumni are welcome to stay for the awards/desserts.

There's plenty to celebrate! see you there.

Great games today!  Both teams have games starting at 9:00am tomorrow.  Hopkins B will be on Field C3 and Hopkins C will be on field I2.

Here is an updated schedule for the tournament so far.

The carpool will be meeting at Lindbergh at 7:15 for a 7:30 departure.

JV State Update

Looks like the games start at 8:30 am rather than 9 a.m. so get to Lindbergh at 6:45 a.m. and carpools will leave at 7 am sharp!!

Also - we need players to indicate their ride status when they register on the sign-up page so we can coordinate the true number of rides - need a ride; have a ride with xxxx; driving on my own. 

Volunteer/Job opportunity this weekend

 We received this email regarding a job opportunity at the tournament this weekend; contact information is below if anyone is interested. Our varsity team is playing their first game of the day on this field, so kind of exciting to know there will be a video of the whole thing! 

Hello all,

This weekend is the State High School Tournament up in Blaine, MN at the National Sports Center.  We have a feature field, U2, which is a grass bowl.  We have feature matches scheduled all weekend on the field, including both finals on Sunday.  The full schedules for games this weekend are here: Open and Girl's.

We would like to video tape the games featured on U2.  We are looking for a camera operator for each game.  There are no formal experience requirements.  We are willing to pay $20/game.  There are 9 games on the weekend, so you could earn up to $180.  Each game has hard caps, so you would have 15+ minutes of downtime between rounds.  We will provide all video equipment.

Saturday: 8:30, 10:30, 12:30, 2:30, 4:30

Sunday: 9:00, 11:00, 1:30, 3:30

Another JV State Update

PLAYERS: See Finn's message below about signing up by Thursday PM!!

CARPOOL:
We are carpooling on Saturday and Sunday. Please sign up on the bottom of each day on the State Tournament Sign Up page.  Indicate which route you can drive...morning, afternoon or both; number of kids.

Tentative plans for now:
- Meet at Lindbergh 7:15 am both mornings
- Game times: 9 a.m.; 11 am; 1 pm; 3 pm

Check back for any changes before Saturday!
