LADIES' DUCs TESTING

We will begin our testing on Thursday this week for the DUCs. Please look over 1st Phase to see what we'll be going over. The written part of the testing will be done this winter indoors.

Varsity Tryouts - Thursday

Hey y'all.

Tryouts will conclude next week and with the sun setting at 6:15, I'd like to start a little earlier.

Practice for Thursday, Oct. 25 (thnx matty), Wednesday Oct. 31 & Thursday Nov. 1 will start at 4:30 (and that's ready-to play cleats on & warmed up)at West Junior High.

Varsity and JV announcements will be on the blog Thursday Nov. 1.

Squalloween Hat Tourney on Saturday!

NOTE: THIS IS CONSIDERED PRACTICE ON SATURDAY! GO PLAY ULTIMATE! (COME AFTER SYNAGOGUE IF YOU NEED, BUT PLEASE ATTEND THIS FOR ULTIMATE PLAYING TIME!!!!!!

Hey fellow Ultimate players! The South Ultimate team is hosting our annual hat-trick fundraiser tournament, cleverly known as Squalloween! You need $10 and a waiver to play. Show up with High School and Middle School friends of all skill levels and everyone will fill out a sheet rating your ability. Then we'll dump the sheets in a hat and pick out roughly equal teams and play each other! If you've never done it before, it's an awesome way to meet other Ultimate players and have a great time playing Ultimate! Players are encouraged to come in costume!

Carleton Practice (was a success)

The players who went down to Northfield had a great time. Everyone learned how a great college team plays and what it takes to play at that level.

HIGHLIGHTS:

-Asa got to see Grant
-Hurt players foot/hand blocking CUT players
-Grewe and Klane tearing it up during scrimmage
-playing sweet ultimate

PRACTICE THIS WEEK

MONDAY: all teams @ Burnes Park/Hopkins from 4:30 - 6:30p
TUESDAY: JV @Burnes /Hopkins from 4:30 - 6:30p
Varsity scrimmage at Carleton (captains organizing carpooling)
THURSDAY: Ladies @ Burnes/Hopkins from 4:30 - 6:30p (bring running shoes to do the mile)
Varsity @ Hopkins JH West from 4:30 - 7p
SATURDAY: all teams @ Maetzold Park/Hopkins from 1- 3p (bring running shoes to do a mile)

REMINDER: the start of practice time is the START of practice - not the time you should be arriving. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the field, get your shoes on, and whatever else you need to do. Also, bring water and discs!!

Varsity at Carleton w/ CUT

The Varsity Practice Team has been offered to practice with CUT this Tuesday.

Captains are organizing rides from Lindbergh.

Expect a post from them with time of departure.

CUT will start practice around 3:45, on the fields
behind the Rec Center (Duerr Fields). We will need to leave around or before 3.

Junior's Worlds

Calling all U-19 Players!
The UPA will be sending an Open and a Girls' Junior National team to the World Ultimate and Guts Championships in Vancouver Canada, in August 2008. The Girls' team will be coached by Eileen Murray, and the Open team will be coached by Berend Van Heuvelen.

All applicants should read carefully through the information page before beginning the application, as there are directions regarding requests for recommendations and eligibility criteria as well as details on cost and a tentative time line. The application and letter of recommendation are due by December 31st.

Following the application period, a limited number of players will be invited to attend a try out camp in March 2008, and from these camps the teams will be chosen.

Due to days upon days of rain and our desire to keep the fields in playable condition, (thus making the school and city administrators happy with us) we will be canceling practice for Thursday, Oct 18.

What Makes Hopkins Ultimate Special? Read The Post

Hi Ivan,
We are still a little bleary eyed from the long trip back from Winnipeg last night, but so thrilled that we were able to see the HURT Varsity Team win the tournament. You don't get to see something like that everyday! It was equally great to see the JV team play their best as well. We just wanted to let you know what an amazing experience it was to chaperone this trip. As always, the parent volunteers were wonderful and so much fun to be with on a chilly weekend morning, but it was the team members we were the most impressed with during the weekend.

These teenagers were the most respectful and well behaved group we have seen in a long time, and as you know, we have seen a lot of teenagers in and out of our house over the years. Not only were they respectful to the chaperones and other teams' members but most importantly, respectful to their own team members. No one ever had to ask twice for help, be it help stretching, finding a missing piece of under armor, getting a snack or water, or simply encouragement. When you say these kids are a family, you really know what you are talking about. Thanks again for all the hard work you and the other board members do for these kids, it is much appreciated. Friday is coming up and we are ready to go. Be at Adath Synagogue by 1:30 on Friday. We will have 'quiet time' for homework for the scholars. We have permission to park our cars at the south east corner of the parking lot. Come prepared for snow, rain and sun. temperatures range from 25 degrees F. to 50 degrees. There will be swimming on Saturday. Bring cash for several meals (3 or 4). Remind your parents that hotel information is posted on this blog. Look back to September's blog to find relevant information.

YES...everyone must have completed their forms to go to Winnipeg and must have paid their fees. If forms are not completed and if parents have not signed and notarized the Permission form you will not be allowed on the bus.

REMEMBER: you need to have a birth certificate and a picture ID or a passport to travel to Canada and to return to the USA. Without appropriate documentation you will not be allowed on the bus.
