YCC
Hurt'ems,
The summer is when you get better. Think about what kind of season you want to have next year, and use the opportunities you have to make it happen.
Play ultimate at the highest level you can as often as you can. The Youth Club Championship tryouts and summer league start next week and the sign ups are now open online:
http://www.mnhsultimate.org/summerleague.aspx
http://mnhsultimate.org/ycc.aspx
This is for everyone, there are u19 teams (open, mixed and womens) and a u16 open team - the more Hurtems we have on these teams, the better. Even if you're not sure you're going to be around this summer, please go to the tryouts just to see what it's like.
Remember to:
Heal.
Throw and catch often.
Get stronger (to prevent injury).
Get in shape.
If you need individual feedback about your game and what you need to do this summer, please ask one of your coaches.
Great season Hurt!

Ultimate Peace
Dear Hurt,
I've been speaking with many of you interested parents and players over the past few months about Ultimate Peace, so I wanted to share some information with the entire group. Ultimate Peace is a non-profit, youth-immersion, ultimate frisbee camp for Palestinian and Israeli kids. The week-long over-night summer camp in Akko, Israel unites these children, ages 11-15, teaching them the rules and values of ultimate. Intently apolitical, camp UP's mission is to "To build bridges of friendship, understanding and fun for youth from different social and cultural backgrounds around the world...Ultimate Peace projects will practice, model and convey our five core principles: mutual respect, friendship, non-violence, integrity, and fun."
The camp brings together around 45 American coaches and 30 local coaches/community organizers/translators with the 175 kids. Every team has a random mix of kids, drawing from three equal groups: Arab-Israeli, Jewish-Israeli, and Palestinian (West Bank), (at least) one Hebrew and one Arabic speaker, two American coaches, and two CITs. I am a counselor and it is the most amazing thing I have ever done.
I wanted to share this with Hurt because there are many opportunities for our players to get involved. The camp is always looking for youth counselors-in-training to participate. I think it would be really cool for a Hurtem to represent Hopkins Ultimate in Israel. I know the head coach and camp director very well; it would not be hard to get involved. Also, as a non-profit, much of the funding is from donations and fundraisers from teams like Hopkins. This is first time ultimate has been used primarily to promote peace and understanding.
Anyway, I just wanted to give you a little information. Please visit Ultimatepeace.org for more. Leave a comment or question and I'll get back to you, or e-mail me directly at daniel.curme@gmail.com.
Best,
-Curme

There are new pictures from the first day of State on our Shutterfly site . I know I haven't gotten Westerns up yet, but I'll try to get those done soon! If anyone has other pictures to share, let me know, and we can post them on the site as well.

Hopkins State Schedule
Team schedules have been posted online at:
http://scores.usaultimate.org/scores/#youth-open/tournament/8789
Parents can follow scores online as games are completed, but really, wouldn't you rather be there?
Erin's note: Hurtems! home tournaments still require full KITS - learn from the tournaments you attended this year and get better. This time of year, your cleats are probably either busted or brand new - please be smart: bring a back up pair, or tools to keep your cleats together.
As Chandler said, be at the fields at 8:15 at the latest.

More Banquet information
We are looking for 15 families to provide 2 dozen cookies or bars for our banquet. The team will provide beverages. If you'd like to bring sweets, please click on this sweets link, which will bring you to a sign up sheet. If you are bringing sweets please plan on arriving a few minutes early or make arrangements to drop your food off to Sara earlier in the day.
I understand there has been much frustration with the lack of a "plan" for the banquet. I did ask for volunteers to plan it at the spring meeting, and had no takers. My first (Ultimate) priority for the past month and a half has been travel and tournaments, oh yeah, and Cub...Please know that even though it may look like nothing is being done, behind the scenes a lot of things are happening. We have picked and had to cancel more days than I can count, along with locations that were only available on certain days. It's an extremely busy time of year, and we'll never be able to pick a date that works for everyone. We're hopeful that a majority of the players and parents are able to attend Monday night.
Parents, please think about how you would like to be involved in HURT next season as we will spend a couple minutes talking about volunteer opportunities. And bring your calendars~we will have the Cub calendar out for everyone to sign up!
Looking forward to seeing all of you Monday night!

Banquet - Monday June 6th at 7:30pm
Dear Family,
After much hunting for a venue and an available date, we have decided to have the Banquet on Monday June 6th at 7:30pm at the Brookview Park picnic structure.
We tried really hard to find a date/time that didn't directly interfere with graduation parties, confirmations, graduations, etc. This was the best option we were able to get.
More details will be posted, but we wanted everyone to be able to get this into their calendar.
Thanks,
