This week - Varsity Tryouts & Saturday Tournament
Hurtems,
The events this week are specifically for those players still trying out for Varsity.
- Tuesday, Tryout
- Thursday, Practice
- Saturday, One day tournament at St. John's
Maetzold got ripped up last week, so we're working with the city to find a replacement field. I don't have that information finalized yet, but will post as soon as I do.
The Varsity roster will also be set this week, and that roster will be expected to go with us to the SJU tournament on Saturday.
More details to come.
Thanks,
Erin

SAVE THE DATES: 11/17 & 11/24 Fundraiser
Please mark your calendars for an excellent and rather amazing fundraiser opportunity that we have coming in November.
Participation will be mandatory for all Hurtems/Hertettes, and we will require assistance from half of our parent support network. Please be prepared to attend at least one of the two days.
The potential gain for the program is $10K. That’s correct. Ten. Thousand. Dollars. Other programs have earned more than that in one day.
Specifics:
- Dates: Sunday 11/17 and Sunday 11/24
Expected time commitment per day = 5 hours, morning start
Efforts are made door to door in district neighborhoods = toasty warm
There are incentives for all player and parent participants
There are additional incentives for players and parents who participate both days
Parents are only responsible for driving
Top seller will win a prize comparable to an iPad mini
As a reminder, fundraisers allow us to reduce costs for the whole family.
A signup genius will be going up soon with finalized details, I just wanted to make everyone aware of the logistics and communicate properly about my expectations regarding participation.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thank you for all you do to support our family.

All Is Well In Canada, eh?
We arrived last night and the kids traveled beautifully! They received their room assignments, settled in and were asleep by 11:30. This morning was beautiful :-). Sunny, crisp and fall colors everywhere. The hotel breakfast was quite nice, the bus left exactly on time and both teams played well. The Black team went 3-0 (!) and Silver went 1-2. Silvers last game was a nail biter... Universal point 6-6, losing by 1 :-(.
I'm proud of the kids! Respectful, punctual, playing great ultimate and having a good time.
Be assured they/we are all...well, ... bonding as players, coaches, chaperones....family. We have wifi in the hotel but electronics are on 'airplane mode/cellular data off'. So if you haven't heard from your child, don't worry! Lights out in 1/2 hour, I will update again tomorrow.

Practice cancelled 10/16
Hurtems,
Unfortunately, Maetzold has been closed for the season after the rain/condition of the field yesterday.
We'll be finding alternative fields for varsity tryouts next week.
Sorry for the late notice, the city just let us know.
The sun is supposed to set at 6:26pm today - get out and throw somewhere with grass.

HBTS 2013 - packing & details
Toasty Warm!
Check out a packing list from a few year ago.
A few key points:
- yes, you need your passport
- you also need to have all your paperwork/$ in
- I can't say enough about wool/synthetic socks
- Layers
- we'll be wearing Hurt Pinnies, so please make sure you have one
Regardless of the weather, it is really important that you're ready for anything (rain/snow/wind/sun).
This is a three day tournament. That means more socks, additional layers etc.
HQ/trainer/food/water refill stations at this tournament are far away from many of the fields we play on, so if you need to regularly re-tape for blisters, or you need sustenance/water, it will be beneficial to plan ahead.
Keep in mind that we're going to fill every seat on the bus, so please pack efficiently. We'll be trying to keep as much as possible under the bus at all times. Anything on the bus will need to be able to fit under a seat or in the overhead, and the aisle will need to remain clear at all times.

Hold Back the Snow Info!
HBTS Player Info:
Attention : Our departure time has changed. Be at the bus ready to load your gear by 12:00 noon.
We will be leaving promptly at 12:30 pm.
The cost for Winnipeg this year will be $285.00 per player. This year's tournament, as you know, is a 3 day event! We've worked hard to keep the price down and the total reflects anticipated profits from the See's candy bar sale. The fundraising dollars from the candy bar sales was used to lower the overall cost of transportation. Cost includes: transportation via a Northfield coach bus complete with wifi and video options. Busing everyone to Winnipeg, back and forth to the tournament each day, and home. Also included in the cost is the hotel, breakfast, field snacks, all tournament fees, and coach expenses. The tournament hosts a BBQ dinner on Saturday night for players and coaches, but we've found in the past that our players often like to order pizzas or some other type of food later in the evening. They are also responsible for their dinner Friday night on the way to Winnipeg, and Sunday night on the way home. The bus will stop at a mall with a food court or a strip mall with a variety of fast food choices (so that's 3 meals that each player is responsible for). They may also want some money for tournament gear (discs, shirts, shorts, etc). We will be bringing typical "ultimate" snacks to the field for each team, but if players have specific foods they like to have at every tournament, they should bring those themselves. There is tournament food available for lunch for players. PLEASE remember to bring at least 1 refillable water bottle; 2 would be better!
We will be leaving from the back of the Adath Parking lot, directly behind Lindbergh Center, Thursday October 17 at 12:30 pm; this means you need to be there 12:00 pm check in and load your things on the bus. We typically arrive back to Adath between 12:00-12:45am Monday morning. When the final tournament schedule is posted, this may change.
We will need a photo copy of everyone's passport, as well as a signed parent permission slip along with your check, no later than Friday October 11th, 2013. (If you have already given us a copy of your passport, thank you!) You can mail it to me, bring it to practice and give to Erin/Finn or Ben Pavelka, or drop it off at my house! But in order to expedite the process of border crossing, all passport information will be sent ahead to border control by Tuesday October 15th...this is a FINAL date. Please get this info in as soon as possible.
Make checks out to HOPKINS ULTIMATE mail them to -

PARENT INFO - For parent chaperones traveling with us, the cost of riding on the bus will be $70.00. Your hotel accommodations are being held with the team under Hopkins Ultimate. Once the kids have their room assignments and are settling in, you will then switch the reservation to your name and credit card. Breakfast is included! I will be on the bus as far as Fargo where I will be picking up a car and driving the rest of the way to Winnipeg. I feel it's important to have a car for incidentals that we might need as well shuttling chaperones to and from the fields. And the all important coffee runs!
Thank you!

I mentioned this at practice yesterday, but practice on Wednesday 10/2 is a HBTS only practice. I'm having technical difficulties updating the blog Upcoming Events area, so I wanted to be clear.
We'll see everyone back on Thursday.
Thanks
