All players should be talking to any girls they know who might have any intrest in playing. Tell them about captain's practice~invite them to come with you just to check it out. WE NEED TO RECRUIT AT LEAST 6 NEW GIRLS IN ORDER TO HAVE A GIRLS TEAM THIS YEAR! It's up to everyone, girls and boys, to help make this happen...so, talk up the sport you love and generate some intrest among the girls as well as the guys!

FIRST CAPTAINS PRACTICE OF THE YEAR

Hey Hurtems and Future Hurtems,

We hope everyone had a relaxing summer but now it's time to get to work. We're starting the 2009-2010 season with the first captains practice Wednesday August 18th from 1pm-3pm at Lions Park in Golden Valley. We will be throwing around and scrimmaging and everyone who plans on playing Jv, Girls or Boys varsity should show up but it is fine if you can't make it.

We know that not everyone has checked the blog the past couple of months so after reading this post, spread the word to anyone you know who plays or is interested in playing. Can't wait to play some ultimate Saturday, see you there.

Sincerely,
Captains Eli, Bumsted, and Haley

YCC volunteers needed!

The 2010 USA Ultimate Youth Club Championships are in Blaine at the National Sports Center this weekend. The Minnesota High School Ultimate League is serving as the local organizer and they need some volunteer help.

The tournament itself is August 14th & 15th and help is needed then as well as the evening of Friday the 13th. The National Sports Center will be handling water, trash and recycling, so volunteer duties are very light and enjoyable: player food preparation, score-keeping (watching some talented kids play some high quality ultimate), setup and breakdown.

If you can volunteer for the whole weekend, great. One day? Fine. Half a day? OK. Just Friday? We need people then. Please go to the Minnesota High School Ultimate Volunteering
Page and sign up. Besides helping some kids to have a great ultimate experience,
you'll get to see some great ultimate and you'll also get some volunteer
souvenirs. We'll have shirts and discs and refreshments. If you work a
full day, we'll get you lunch, too.

Luther College Ultimate Camp

Greetings Hopkins Ultimate Players,

Luther College will host their Ultimate Frisbee Camp again this summer, June 24-27. We invite you and any of your friends to join us for what will be another great year of competition and fun. Come improve your skills and learn more about what it takes to succeed in the college game from captains of both the Men's and Women's teams. The camp is for boys and girls anyone ages 14-19. Whether you have been playing Ultimate for 4 years or you are just beginning, this is the camp for you. The Luther Camp is a comprehensive experience where beginners learn the ins and outs of Ultimate and experienced players sharpen both technical and tactical skills. In the evenings we take a break from the rigor of training sessions to enjoy a range of activities from swimming and disc golf, to scavenger hunts. We hope you'll join us this year!

Please see the attached postcard for more information or go to http://luther.edu/programming/camps/frisbee/ to register.

Bring four of your friends and you get a group discount!!

Contact us with questions. Please feel free to forward this email on to anyone who might be interested.

Knollwood Cub Foods Fundraiser

Yesterday was our first day of selling hamburgers, hot dogs and brats at Cub and I have to admit, I had fun! Thank you to Randy Steinman, Benny Greenfield and Zach Mekler for being the first to help me run the stand. We were all amazed at how popular this is; it was hopping all day long. That being said, the stand can be run with 2 people at a time, but is easier and more efficient with 3. Cub supplied us with an employee most of the day yesterday, but that won't always be the case. Please check your calendars and email me to sign up for a shift. Parents and players don't have to be able to work together; a lot of the players will be gone at camp from mid June through July so any parent or alum volunteers during this time will really be appreciated. Although I learned quickly that we should try to have players there as often as possible; within 30 minutes of arriving Benny and Zach had recieved more tips than we'd gotten in 3 1/2 hours!

Shifts are 10:30-2 and 2-5:30 every Thursday through August. You should plan to arrive a few minutes early(@10min for the a.m. shift) and we found that we were done yesterday by 5:40.

JV Meetup at State -- Updated

JV Players and Parents,

Here is a link to the field map for State.

http://mnhsultimate.org/2010/10_Ultimate%20HS%20Champs_Map.pdf

Our fields are C1 and U3, which are at the South end of the entire NSC. You will probably want to park in the main lot next to the Schwan Center.

We will need one captain to attend the captain's meeting at Tournament Central, which is relatively far away and on the North side of 105th Ave. Either Eazy or I will also attend while the rest of the team warms up.

For transportation to State, we will follow Varsity's lead at meet at Lindbergh by 7:15.
Players are responsible for their own rides to Blaine. Be there by 8:00.
