Winnipeg info

PLAYER INFO-the cost for Winnipeg this year will be $200.00. This price includes the coach bus ride up and back, as well as back and forth to the field during the tournament, the hotel, breakfast, some field snacks, all tournament fees, and all coaches expenses. The tournament hosts a dinner on Saturday night, but we've found in past years that our players sometimes like to order pizzas or some other type of food later in the evening. They are also responsible for their dinner Friday night on the way to Winnipeg, and Sunday night on the way home. The bus will stop at a mall with a food court or a strip mall with a variety of fast food choices. They may also want some money for tournament gear(discs, shirts, shorts, etc). We will be bringing typical "ultimate" snacks to the field for each team, but if players have specific foods they like to have at every tournament, they should bring that themselves. PLEASE remember to bring at least one refillable water bottle; two would be better!

We will be leaving from the back of the Adath Parking lot, directly behind Lindbergh Center, at NOON; this means you need to be there at 11:30 to check in and load your things on the bus. The last few years we've gotten back to Adath between 12:00-12:45a.m. Monday morning.

I will need a copy of everyone's passport, as well as a signed parent permission slip(link) along with your check, no later than Tuesday, October 9th. This means you can mail  it all to me, or bring it to practice and give it to Erin/Wyatt, but in order to expedite the process of border crossing, I need to send all passport information to border control by Wednesday, so this is a FINAL date. Please do it sooner if possible.

Make checks out to HOPKINS ULTIMATE
mail them to - Sara Mekler

Mtka, MN 55305

PARENT INFO-for the parents who wish to travel with us, the cost of riding on the bus will be $75.00. If you choose to drive, please know that this is not reimbursed by the team since you are not transporting any players, and have the option of riding on the bus!!! I will be driving, as I feel it's always important to have one car up there, so you won't have to rely on the bus to get to the fields and back for the games. But, it's really important to have parents on the bus so the coaches have some help with OUR children...

I will need passport info and birthdates from parent travelers by October 9th as well, being that everyone on the bus will be listed on a document sent to border control.

Feed my in-box update

We've found some answers to everyone's questions regarding the late arrivals of blog posts when you subscribe to feed my in-box. Apparently, this service only sends out emails once a day, unless you subscribe to a full version, and pay $5.00 a month...per email address. Obviously, this is not something the team is going to do, and not something I even recommend each of you do on your own. If you bookmark the blog, during busy times of the season, it's pretty easy to take a quick peek at it a few times a day if needed. We will continue to look for other services that are similar, and will give us the freedom to have notices sent out in real time, without any fees. I'll keep you updated, but in the meantime, we appreciate your patience as we continue to look at new options. We're attempting to embrace new technology as you may have noticed with our Winnipeg sign up, and would love to hear what you think about it. Thanks for your patience!

Winnipeg info

The following people either have none or only part of their registration materials in, and will not be considered for the HBTS rosters, if they don't either have them at Sara's by 4:00 Tuesday, or they've contacted Sara.

Aaron Raskin
Sam Parker
Trey Taylor
Will Cohen
Oliver Lee
Riley Kendall
Hattie Holm
Claire Smart
Overflow list-

Winnie Brand
-----------------------------------------------------------

First thing; if we don't have all of your registration materials-all forms completely filled out, and payment, you will not be put on the HBTS roster...at this point, 12 of the 36 people signed up are in this position. If your paperwork and check isn't either mailed or dropped off at Sara's by Tuesday, your spot will be given away. If there is a problem, contact Erin or Sara immediately.

Parents, please let me know if you are planning on traveling to Winnipeg with us. Whether you're planning on riding the bus or driving, I'd like to get a head count on how many adults will be there. We are going to be staying at the Country Inn and Suites this year. They've given us a group rate of $105.00 per night plus tax, but I need to give them a final number by the end of the week for how many rooms we will need.

I'm finalizing all the costs, but am looking at the price for the trip this year to be @$200.00 give or take $15.00.  I'll have a final price up on the blog by Tuesday. Once this price is determined, it will be due by the end of next week.

Winnipeg sign-up

Today, Sunday, September 23rd is the last day sign up will be open to only upperclassmen. If you want to go to Winnipeg, get your name on the list. Tomorrow, 9th graders may sign up, and we're closing registration at the end of the day tomorrow, 9/24, in order to form rosters and meet the deadlines set by the HBTS coordinators.

Okay, what you've all been waiting for!!! Please use this link to access our new method of signing up for a tournament. If you have any problems, please let us know at the email address below! Please read all the information regarding this new system, below the sign-up link, before using the link!

New season, new technology. We are trying a new and hopefully better way for players and drivers to sign up for tournaments. Signupgenius.com is a free system that should be easier for everyone. With signupgenius, you can sign up without having to create an account. However, if you do sign up for an account, you will receive emails when changes are made to the signup page, you’ll also receive email reminders as necessary, and it becomes easier to sign up for subequent events. Again, there is no requirement to setup an account – entirely your choice. If you have any questions about the signupgenius, you can send an email tohopkinsultimate3@gmail.com. Also, we’d really like to know what you think of the signupgenius so please send your comments to that email address as well. Thanks

And thank you to David "Digital" Seffren for all the work you put into creating this!

Winnipeg

We are working out the kinks in a new system for tournament sign-ups...it will be up and running soon. In the meantime, you should already know if you are hoping to go to Canada-
1: you have a passport!
2: you've been attending practice
3: you've helped out at Cub, or will be working a fundraising shift.
4: your parents have already given you permission to go!!! Don't sign up if you haven't cleared it with them yet!

Check back later today for updates on the sign-up

Registration

Thank you to everyone who attended our registration meeting last night; it was great to see so many returning and new players and parents! If you were unable to attend, the registration forms will now be available for you to download and print out. You may bring them to practice and turn everything in to coach Erin, in which case Wyatt will have a disc for you that night, or mail them to me at the address on the form, and I will then let Wyatt know that you can be given a disc at the next practice. No one will be allowed to attend practice without being registered after next Thursday, September 27th. If you have any questions regarding the forms, I'm happy to answer them; my email address is on the right hand side of the page above the calendar.

All forms here-one is information only, the rest need to be filled out and returned

Fall Practices start 9/11

Hurtems & Hertets,

All team fall practices start this week, and we're excited to be back with the family!

Reminders:
- Practice starts at 6pm, which means we're running our warmup at 6pm.  Please arrive early enough to cleat up.
- Each Hurtem/Hertet is responsible for bringing a White jersey, a Dark jersey, their own water bottle (preferably reusable), and a disc with their name on it.  Grey jerseys don't count!
- We will be keeping attendance at practices this year - so make sure you find the sign up sheet at every practice.

Locations
- On Tuesdays we're at WJH behind the structure.  This is a new field to us, so give yourself a few extra minutes to find it.
- The construction at Maetzold is complete! We're excited about the turf and the lights. We'll be here on Thursdays and occasional Wednesdays in October.

Parents!
In the fall we battle with sunset for when practice is over.  When we're at Maeztold, we'll have lights so it won't matter.  When we're at West, we'll often finish practice 15-30 minutes after dark.  I will try to post pick up times accurately on the blog before hand, but just know we're at the mercy of conditions.

See you on Tuesday!
Erin

FALL REGISTRATION MEETING

We will be holding our fall registration meeting on Wednesday, September 19th at 7:00pm in room W230 HHS. This meeting is for all parents and players who are interested in playing on any of the Hopkins Ultimate teams this year. We will be going over all the information regarding seasons, practice, games, tournaments, rules, and regulations. Coaches and captains will be speaking and answering questions. Please make it a priority to attend with your player! Registration forms will be available at the meeting. If they are available sooner, we will post a link for them on the blog so you'll be able to download them ahead of time.

Information regarding the official start of practice will be posted soon; we're just waiting for confirmation on all of our field space requests. In the meantime, get outside after school and throw with a friend!

Sorry for the earlier confusion; the meeting is on Wednesday. Thank you to the parents who noticed my mistake and let me know!

YCC VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED!!!

Players and parents, YCC is this weekend in Blaine and they are still in in need of some volunteers. In the post directly below this one, you'll see information and a link that will take you to the MNHSUL website, where you'll find more information and can sign up to help. They are looking for scorekeepers among other things, so you can still watch Ultimate while helping out the MN Ultimate community! This is a really fun event, but just like the Hustle, can only function because of all the volunteers who give their time and energy; lets be a part of that HURt!!

Mid Summer check in

Hurtems & Hertets!

I hope that all of you are taking the opportunity to get better so far this summer.  Whether you're working out, throwing 1000 throws a week, or playing YCC - the best way to get better is to play the highest level of ultimate available to you as often as you can.

There are also some good opportunities to learn by watching coming up:

1) NexGen vs. Subzero @HHS stadium; 4pm on Sunday July 22nd.  There's really no reason not to go watch this: Hurt alums battling it out at the Hopkins stadium with a lot of other talent.  Event details

2) MUDI - @Maple Plain July 28-29th:  A club tournament that includes most of the Hopkins coaching staff, and a lot of Alumni - all in the same place!

3) YCC tournament volunteering/spectating @NSC August 11-12th.  Volunteers are needed for score keeping and other tasks.  These are the best U19 and U16 players in the country all gathered together at NSC.  Several Hurtems and Hertets will be competing.

Watching really talented players compete is a good way to improve because you can apply their strategies/moves/throws to your game.

If you're not sure what you should be doing this summer (other than the Cub Foods truck), please ask one of last year's captains or your coaches.  Don't come back in the fall and regret the throws you didn't throw or the workouts you didn't do.

Remember, too, that RECRUITING is a full year, full time job.  I look forward to welcoming several new Hurtems and Hertets to our family in the fall.  Make it happen!

Erin

Registering for Summer League is required if you want to play YCC, and these summer league events serve as tryouts too.
