Varsity Boys @ Mounds View Game to Be Rescheduled

Fellas -

Due to many unforseen and late-arising conflicts, we will be unable to play tonight vs Mounds View. We just don't have enough players. This game will (hopefully) be rescheduled for soemtime next week.

Girls game vs. Cretin

Good job this weekend girls! You all played great and everyone improved a lot. However, we have a game on Monday against Cretin.

We are carpooling at the Lindbergh parking lot. Meet at 4:30ish and ready to leave by 4:45. If you are a junior/senior expect to drive. I'm coming late to the game, but everyone should meet there (even the gv kids). We need you to drive those who don't have licenses. The traffic is bad so that's why we're leaving early.

Next Level Ultimate Camp

Hey Boys on Hurt - The Next Level Ultimate camp is happening this summer in nearby Madison, WI. Hurt alum Ben Feldman has been working with a bunch of top-flight ultimate players from across the country to put this together. Unfortunately, ladies, this year the camp is only for the fellas. This summer, elevate your game at the first annual Next Level Ultimate Camp (July 25-30, 2009). This 5 day, 5 night camp is dedicated to providing High School players from around the country the opportunity to meet and engage in high-level play with their peers in a focused, motivating, and fun environment. Next Level Ultimate will educate its campers in advanced fundamentals and techniques used by the most successful college and club ultimate teams. Over the course of our five-day session, our counselors and staff will work to give campers the confidence and tools to improve not only themselves, but future teammates and friends.

Next Level counselors are some of the best leaders and players in the sport of Ultimate, coming from programs such as Seattle's Sockeye, Boulder's Johnny Bravo, Minnesota's SubZero, They're amped to impart their knowledge and experience onto campers through drills, discussion and play.

Another day remains, but if you are out at the polo grounds today, please thank our volunteer tournament director, Peter Ilten for his excellent work in planning and running the Hustle. Peter, an Ultimate player at Luther College is preparing for graduate school, and Mike Kinsella wooed him into taking on the Hustle.

Also spread the love to Rachel Abrams, a senior, who assisted with planning from day 1 and handled arrangements for our traveling teams, and Laurie Levin (Mama Brick), another planner and on-site score keeper.

Many more thanks still to come for the players, parents and coaches who helped in hundreds of ways!

Hert carpooling to the Hustle Saturday morning

Girls, meet at the HHS Lindbergh lot at 6:45 am, we will leave at 7:00 am.
We have 4 older girls who will be driving to the fields. They are all experienced drivers, but parents, if you would rather drive your daughter yourself, that is fine. Please let us know your plan as a comment at the bottom of this blog posting. Still plan to stop at Lindbergh and check in with the team before heading out. Games start at 9:00, so everyone come on out to cheer for Hert any time Saturday!

If girls need rides back to Lindbergh at the end of the day, we'll call parents with an ETA as we leave the fields. Driving time is about 25 minutes.

Since there is no game tomorrow against Copper, we will be taking tomorrow off.   There will be no game or practice tomorrow for JV.  Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Hopkins Hustle (Sat-Sun at Maple Plain)

The Hopkins Hustle is coming this weekend. This tournament is sponsored by our club and serves as a fundraiser for the organization. All three teams participate without charge, and they will be involved in helping with the event -- preparing fields, clean up, hosting, etc.

Here are a few things about the tournament:
* 20 open teams and 7 girls teams are participating. They will each play 6-7 games.
* The captains meeting is at 8 a.m. Sat and game play starts at 9 a.m. both days.
* All games will be at the Twin Cities Polo Grounds in Maple Plain
(Directions: Take Highway 12 west through Maple Plain to County Road 90.
Turn left (South) on County Road 90. Go 1 mile. Turn right (West) on Turner Road. Go 1/2 mile. The Polo Club is on the south side of the road.
* There will be a showcase game between Sub Zero and Minnesota's Grey Ducks on Sunday at 12:20.
* The Championship rounds are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Sunday. Game play should be finished by 3:30 to 4 p.m.
* Traveling teams (6 teams from Winnipeg, Nashville and Madison) along with all the Hopkins players are invited to a potluck supper at West Junior High Saturday night between 5-7 p.m.

Tournament Director Peter Ilten will be contacting many people who offered to volunteer to provide more details about your roles. Thanks to all the families providing food for the potluck too!

JV Practice Tuesday at Lindbergh

Tuesday May 5th we have practice at Lindbergh # 10 (Next to the climbing wall) instead of our normal location.   

Also our Thursday game against Cooper is being re-scheduled to the following week.  So there will not be a game this Thursday.  

Note from Madison host family

We received the following from the JV Host family and Susan asked that I share it with all the players who stayed at her home. (I love receiving notes like this. Way to go, Hurt!)

Thank you for the gifts we really appreciate them. It was a pleasure to have your kids. I am just sorry the weather did not cooperate. Colin will be wearing the Hopkins cap at Granite City Tournament this weekend as it looks like it could be sunny! We found one blue and white under armor shirt. Gavin our senior will have it at the Hopkins Ultimate tournament next weekend.
