Luther College Ultimate Camp

Greetings Hopkins Ultimate Players,

Luther College will host their Ultimate Frisbee Camp again this summer, June 24-27. We invite you and any of your friends to join us for what will be another great year of competition and fun. Come improve your skills and learn more about what it takes to succeed in the college game from captains of both the Men's and Women's teams. The camp is for boys and girls anyone ages 14-19. Whether you have been playing Ultimate for 4 years or you are just beginning, this is the camp for you. The Luther Camp is a comprehensive experience where beginners learn the ins and outs of Ultimate and experienced players sharpen both technical and tactical skills. In the evenings we take a break from the rigor of training sessions to enjoy a range of activities from swimming and disc golf, to scavenger hunts. We hope you'll join us this year!

Please see the attached postcard for more information or go to http://luther.edu/programming/camps/frisbee/ to register.

Bring four of your friends and you get a group discount!!

Contact us with questions. Please feel free to forward this email on to anyone who might be interested.

Cheers!

MNHS Ultimate Leage Games Next Week

Hey Everyone -

I hope you are enjoying your spring breaks! When school starts back up on Monday, we get right back into it and the MN HS League starts!

Girls first game is Tuesday, April 6 at 6 PM.
Boys' JV and Boys Varsity first games are Thursday, April 8 at 6 PM.

As we don't have access to the Lindbergh fields until the week of 4/12, expect this week's games to be "away" games. Plan on meeting at the high school around 4:30 to carpool. Assume all three games will be at different locations as well. JV parents, if you are planning on attending and can drive, please post in the comments, as the JV team has the biggest need for rides. The schedule for the first half of league play will be finalized by the league board over the weekend, but expect all 3 Hopkins teams to be playing away games this week.

Why does the schedule not come out until 3 days before games start? Because the registration deadline for MNHSUL was just this week. The first half of the schedule will be finished by Monday at the latest, and the second half of the schedule will be decided based on the first half results.

We will post the first week schedule (and a link to the MNHS Ultimate schedule) once it is finalized.

Thanks,
Mike

Down Time

Hey Hurtems -

As you may have noticed, things have slowed down (officially) over the past week as we transition from outdoor space to our indoor season and approach the holidays. Official practice time and space is coming shortly, but now is a great time to work on your own and improve yourself individually.

Get in the gym, continue (or start) working out on your quickness and strength. Or don't get in the gym - get outside to your backyard or a park and throw by yourself or with a friend!

If you are confused or uncertain about what you can do to make yourself better, talk to your captains and coaches.

This is the time to get better, it will pay off in the spring!!

Captains’ Meeting for the Cold Front Cooldown is at 8:10 AM on Saturday. That means if you need a ride, you must show up at the back parking lot of Lindbergh at 7:15, and players will be leaving at 7:30. If you are driving separately, please be there at the fields by 8:10 AM. Coach Mike will be meeting players at the fields. Upperclassmen, please show up ready to drive.

People who have said they can drive so far are: Jenna, Haley, Eli, Ethan, Josh Klane, Rick or Wendi Rosenstein, Daniel Raskin. Upperclassmen who can drive, please make sure that all the younger players have rides before you leave Lindbergh. Captains are in charge Saturday morning.

The UPA Northwest Plains Open and Mixed sectional tournament is being held at the same location. Sectional fields are on the north end of the polo complex; the high school fields will be at the south end of the complex. There will be a separate tent and food for the high school tourney and the adult tourney; please make sure you are not taking the adults' food!

Dress for the weather! It could rain, it could be cold, it could be hot and sunny... be prepared! We play through rain, but obviously not thunder/lightning.

- a hat if you want
- a water bottle
- a large plastic garbage bag (to put your stuff in if it starts raining)
- snacks for yourself if you want something besides bagels, bananas, and food for sale at the tourney
- a disc (if you have one) with your name on the back!
- YOUR WAIVER. You cannot play without a waiver signed by your parent/guardian (under 18) or yourself (over 18).
The two teams are as follows:

Hopkins 1 (captains in bold) – 17 players:
Josh Klane
Eli Leonard
Jenna Dailey
Haley Arenson
Carl Aanestad
Nihal Bhakta
Sam Bumsted
Greg Cousins

Games should go until 5:30 or so. Other coaches besides Mike Born will be at the fields but playing at Sectionals, so they should be able to stop by and check in but not be there all the time.
Please let me or your captains know if you have any questions.

Cold Front Cooldown - Next Saturday 9/26

Hey Team -

Next Saturday we will have two mixed (boys and girls combined) teams competing in the "Cold Front Cooldown." This is a one day tournament, hosted by Eden Prairie Cold Front Ultimate, on Saturday 9/26. As this is a local and one-day tourney, there is no additional per player cost for this tournament. The club has covered the tournament fee.

This tournament is being held at the Twin City Polo Club in Independence, MN, just west of Maple Plain. All players are invited to attend. Players must have their Hurt registrations materials submitted to participate.

As this is the same weekend as the UPA Northwest Plains Sectional qualifier (a tournament for adult Ultimate players), most if not all of the coaches will be playing at this tournament. Fortunately, this tournament also is located at the Twin City Polo Club on Saturday and Sunday. This means that coaches Mikey K, Erin, Lou, and Tom will all be out at the fields, but for the mot part unable to coach. Captains will lead the teams, but we will need parent chaperons to supervise throughout the day. Parents, if you can attend for all or part of the day on Saturday, please post a comment on the blog also.

The following is a map of Hopkins Ultimate sites. Included on there is the location of the polo fields.
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=112976841523924219467.00045e03e59e361d1fd7a&t=h&z=11

There will most likely be fruit, bagels, and water provided by the tournament, but players are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles and snacks for themselves. Players will be responsible for all of their own food in addition to what is provided by the tourney, so please be prepared.

Expect the first game to start around 9 am, and play to go until 4:30 or 5. Players will meet at Lindbergh to carpool if necessary, most likely meeting 1 hr, 45 min to 90 minutes before the first game. Carpooling details will be posted by captains by midweek.

Players, please respond in the comment section if you are able to attend.
