HBTS recap

Congratulations to both Hopkins teams who attended Hold Back the Snow!!

Hopkins Black stressed everyone out with 3 consecutive wins on universe point on Sunday to take the Championship. It's about the memories and the snuggy.

Hopkins Silver broke seed, finishing 11th of 21 teams. From what I saw, there were some highlight reel plays and steady improvement over the course of the weekend. Great work!

Rest up, stretch, and rehydrate. We'll see you at practice.
Erin

PS. If anyone found an Ipod touch on the bus, please contact Benji.

Winnipeg is cold!

Scratch the 50 degrees -- not even close. It was windy too. Kids held up well and played well too.

Black team went 4-0. Silver finished the day 2-2.

Finished dinner at the barbeque and will relax by the pool or in the hotel rooms for the remainder of the evening.

Arrived safe in Winnipeg

All 36 players arrived in Winnipeg without incident although we nearly had to call Coach Lou's parents for permission to take him to Canada. Our border crossing was record fast.

Both teams will have breakfast and head to the park for four games and a barbeque today. Temp may get as high as 50 degrees.

Here is the web site of the event so you can see the schedule etc.

Winnipeg travel info

For those heading to Winnipeg, it's time to pack those bags.

But first, thanks to the 10 parents who are chaperoning the trip: Diane Arenson, Sheri Brenden, Steve Bumsted, John Dailey, Jennifer Kreiman, Jon Kachelmacher (driving),Ken Raskin, Wendi and Rick Rosenstein, and Judy Saltzman. We couldn't do the trip without their support. The players will be in good hands.

Trip info: Travel arrangement details and permission forms are available here.

Parking: Adath Jeshurun Synagogue will allow cars to be parked in the southeast corner (farthest away from the building) of the parking lot If you choose to leave your car there over the weekend, Adath is not responsible for any damage or theft that happens to your car. You park your car there at your own risk.

Bus boarding and loading: Fri., 11:45 a.m.-12:30 at Adath Jeshurun lot. Passports and birth certificates must be in-hand in order to board the bus.

The following is a packing list from "H" -- a HErt coach who went to Winnipeg last year.

  • Cleats (and a back-up pair if you have them)
  • Hopkins light jersey and black jersey (for new players, any black or white shirt is fine, non-cotton, synthetic material is best)
  • Shorts
Appropriate clothing for weather:

  • Rain jacket and warm jacket and/or vest, something that will stop the wind
  • Long underwear/performance layer for top and bottom (bring layers, no cotton)
  • Hats: stocking for warmth and one to block sun
  • Mittens or gloves
  • Socks, bring extra – wool and/or synthetic, or anything but cotton is best! Cotton socks slip when wet, and create friction, which can give you blisters. They don't dry, hence leaving you with cold, uncomfortable feet. They will be more expensive but are worth the investment. Any sports/outdoors store should have these.
  • Disc, if you have one (with your name on the back)
  • UPA Rules Book (coaches will bring some for new players to read)
  • Reusable water bottle(s)! Hopkins urges all players to have reusable bottles at practices and tournaments. Please be responsible citizens!
  • Appropriate foodstuffs for fuel (think carbs and protein - some snacks provided, but best to provide your own)
  • Extra shoelaces!!!
  • 1st aid items (personal inhaler, moleskin for blisters, pre-wrap if you use it often, Icyhot) Sunblock! You have a greater chance of burning on cloudy days.
  • Cash to buy merchandise and food ($50-60 recommended for meals)

Girlies for Exit 69

Girls,

We are all very excited for this weekend and I am excited to play with all us girls, but we must get some things cleared up so we have no problems or confusion the day of. First, we are expecting all of you to meet at Lindbergh at 9:00 on saturday and 7:00 sunday. This means that if your name is on the list below we will wait for you at Lindbergh until we know for sure you have a ride. So, if you are driving up separately or at a later time please post on the blog and keep your phones on so we can contact you!
Second, we need female drivers and or parents. Our games may end at a different time than the boys so it would be convenient if we all drove up and back together. If you can drive please post that on the blog too. For all you non drivers, you need to bring 3 dollars each day for gas money for whomever is driving you.
Third, bring 20 dollars for the tournament fee.
Lastly, these are the people that we are expecting to come to the tournament and meet us at Lindbergh if you have any changes ( want to come, aren't meeting us at lindbergh, can't come, etc.) please post them.

Saturday: Jenna, Emma, Haley, Laurel, Val, Mia, Maddie, Erynn, Mara, Bailey, Erin
sunday: Jenna, Emma, Haley, Laurel, Val, Mia, Maddie, Erynn, Mara, Bailey, Emily, Abby, Erin

Thanks gals
Haley Arenson (if you have any questions you can contact me)

p.s. you can/should bring some snacks

Practice Canceled Tonight FOR ALL TEAMS!

Practices for all Hurt teams have been canceled tonight, 10/1/09 due to constant rain throughout the afternoon and unplayable fields.

Exit 69 - This Weekend!!

Hello Teams -

The boys and girls teams will be playing in "Exit 69," a tournament hosted by St. Olaf College this weekend in Northfield, MN. Games are played both Saturday 10/3 and Sunday 10/4.

Players will be meeting at 7:00 AM both Saturday and Sunday at the Lindbergh parking lot and carpooling to Northfield. Parents are welcome to attend!

[[UPDATE]] Boys, this is a varsity level tournament and we will be bringing a limited number of players. We'll choose the roster based on seniority and experience. If you are interested in attending this tournament, please post in the comment section or talk to your captains at school. We'll post a final roster later this week. Girls have been commenting in another post about their availability.

Things to bring to this tournament:
- a WHITE (not gray) shirt
- a BLACK (or dark) shirt
- athletic shorts and socks
- cleats
- a disc, if you have one
- a water bottle (or two)
- sunblock and a hat
- rain and cold gear (who knows what the weather will be like?)

Northfield is less than an hour away, right off Exit 69 (hence the tourney name!) on I-35 south of the Cities. Upperclassmen, please post in the comments if you are able to drive. Also, parents, if you plan to attend the whole day and would be willing to drive some players, please also post in the comments. Gas costs will be the individual responsibility of each car and split amongst those in the car.

The per player cost for this tournament (covering the tourney entry fee and coaching stipends/costs) is $20 per player. Please bring this to practice on Thursday, or with you on Saturday morning. Checks can be made out to "Hopkins Ultimate." Please pay before we leave on Saturday or you will not be able to attend. Questions or concerns please contact Sheri at slbrenden@comcast.net. Some food and water will be provided by the tournament, but please bring some snacks of your own or money to buy food if you so choose.

The captains' meeting is at 8:15 at the following location in Northfield:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=510+East+Jefferson+Parkway,Northfield,MN+55057&ie=UTF8&ll=44.441992,-93.164116&spn=0.003631,0.007027&t=h&z=17&iwloc=A

Coaches will meet the players at the captains' meeting in Northfield.

Expect games to start at 9 AM and play to complete around 5 or 6 PM on both days. I have not been given an exact schedule yet, but I will post that as soon as I receive it.

We are NOT staying in Northfield, but will be returning to Lindbergh on Saturday night.

Fellas, please be advised that this tournament is being considered a varsity tryout tournament by the coaches, and we will be playing against college and adult competition.

Questions? Please ask your coaches at practice or give me a call/email.
