Varsity Roster 2014-2015

The roster is here!
Thank you to everyone who tried out for Varsity this year. The skill level that the Hopkins program holds is crazy high and the future is extremely bright. The Varsity Team is VERY fluid. Demotions and promotions are very real and very possible. This means that if you made the team, we expect you to continue to work hard from now until the end of the season, come to workouts and practices (which both are MANDATORY), and be ready to push yourself harder than ever before. If you didn’t make the team, keep working hard, come to workouts and practices, and prove that you can be a valuable member of the team or the team for years to come. Stay posted to the blog to hear when workouts begin and other logistical matters.

Now, your 2014-2015 Hopkins Varsity Roster.

Captain Sam “Hurricane” Kaminsky
Isaac “Just Couldn’t Wait” Teplinsky
Matt “Hannah Montana” Molnar

Jonny “Jonny Frisbee” Lovagnini

Congratulations to all who made it. I’m looking forward to making this a season to remember with all of you. Now, let’s get to work.

We've arrived!

Teams Black and Silver, coaches, and parent chaperones are safely settled into the hotel.  It was an easy ride with zero complications :-).  We arrived around 8:45pm.  A couple of movies were shown on the bus including 'The Princess Bride'.  Erin informed me that it's the 25th anniversary of the movie!  At this point players  should have lights out, resting up for the start of the tournamenttomorrow  morning.

•REMEMBER to BRING your PASSPORT & PERMISSION slips with you.   Both will be collected before you can  board the bus!!  If you haven't paid yet, checks will be collected s well.
•Have your wallet in your carry on bag!  Luggage is stowed underneath.
•Our first stop is Fargo for a quick dinner. Approximately 4 hours from the cities.
•The weather keeps changing so be Toasty Warm and prepared.
•Remember that Canada is not part of most data plans. Plan to communicate via a Wi-Fi app such as WhatsApp instead of texting or calling home!
•Parents; I will post on the blog once the kids are settled to let you know we've arrived.

Practiced are finished for the fall except for Varsity tryouts. Continue to check the blog for workouts days/times and other information.
If you are planning on practicing/playing with Hopkins Ultimate over the winter, it's advisable to register sooner than later.  Jerseys will be ordered before the end of the year with only a few extra available for spring registration. Check the sidebar for tournaments that we try to play in before Spring season.

Hold Back the Snow information

Please read this entire post if you are traveling to Winnipeg

Hello!
Please accept my apologies for the late blog post regarding HBTS. I ran into many speed bumps on the road while frantically trying to get this information up in a timely manner....which I unfortunately did not get done. However....

We are excited to be able to send our tradition of 2 teams to play in the HBTS tournament in Winnipeg, Canada.  Here are the details:

  • We are meeting in the Adath back parking lot on Friday October 17, at 11:00am.   Cars may be left there for the weekend.  The bus leaves at 11:30am sharp.
  • The bus is quite comfortable and has a restroom, DVD player, free Wi-Fi and seats that are spacious and partially recline.
  • Passports will be collected before getting on the bus.  Please have yours out and ready when you arrive at Adath?
  • We will stop for dinner in Fargo which is 4 hrs. away.  Please eat a late breakfast/early lunch before we leave.
  • Estimated arrival time at the hotel is approx 7:30-8:00pm.  Players may be hungry again. Last year pizza and Chinese both delivered to the hotel.
  • We are staying at the Country Inn and Suites.  Room assignments will be given once we arrive.  There are 4 players per room.
  • Free Wi-Fi and hot breakfast is included.  The hotel also has a 'to go' breakfast bag
  • Team meetings will be called after everyone is settled.
  •  The coaches will set the time for breakfast and departure each day--plan to leave the hotel sometime between 7-8 am.
  • The tournament has complimentary food/lunch for players both days.  The chicken soup gets 2 thumbs up from what I hear.  There is also a BBQ dinner for players Saturday evening.
  • Remember to bring your OWN snacks, shot blox, granola bars, and at least 1, but 2 is better, reusable water bottles.
  • Field bags with the usual field food will be available to supplement your hunger needs.
  • Make sure you have an extra sport bag/back pack/string bag to transport your kit/gear to and from the fields.  Extra bags (think reusable/such as target bags) are important for muddy cleats and or wet gear.  Cleats will NOT be worn into the hotel!  All cleaning of gear must take place outside!
  • I suggest your KITS include the usual gear & everything you need for every type of weather! Hats, gloves, winter warmth jacket, rain gear, at minimum 6 pairs of socks (wool socks are awesome), many layers including tights, under armour, compression gear, medium weight jacket or hoodie, sweats etc...the extended forecast for Winnipeg is 36-37* for the low and 45-48* for highs,  Partly cloudy and rain, and of course wind always makes it seems colder.  Parent chaperones; plan to be at the fields most of the day so you have your own chaperone/spectator kits also.  If you are unsure of what a 'kit' is or items you might need ask a captain, coach or use the search engine on the blog.
  • We will depart directly after the awards ceremony to come home.  The bus will stop, probably in Grand Forks, for a dinner break.  Bring comfy clothes specifically for the ride home.  After dinner the majority of players and parents will quickly fall asleep.
  • Our estimated arrival time back at Adath is 12:30am-1:00am Sunday night/Monday morning.  Erin will tweet approximately 45 min from home. Players will be reminded to alert their parents via text/call as well.
The cost for the weekend is $255.oo per player, & $60.oo per parent for the bus.  Checks should be made out to: Hopkins Ultimate and are due ASAP.  Remember to bring money for the 2 dinner stops, snacks, and any MERCH you might want to buy. (Dinner stops are at fast food type restaurants such as Noodles, Five Guys, DQ, etc..) You may give payments by check to the following people:
Ben Pavelka at school or practice,
Wendy Shear after practice,
Coach Erin
or myself.
All players must be paid before boarding the bus.

I'm looking forward to having a great time, watching some awesome Ultimate and defending our champions title :-).

Debbi

{I'd like to remind everyone that registration was due September 28th.  You are not considered fully registered until the online forms;
 ~have been filled out,
~the USAU 2014/2015 form and USAU medical forms have been printed & signed by players  and parents
~and payment has been turned in.
I have received many completed registrations.  Thank you!
However, I am missing a significant number of registrations from HBTS players!  You may not attend HBTS unless you're completely registered for Hopkins Ultimate.
It is not my responsibility, nor fair to myself or the captains, to have to track down  players/families reminding them of their commitments.}
Effective immediately players will not be allowed to attend practice unless they are completely registered.

BLITZ

Hello everyone!

Our 2nd and last discount card BLITZ is tomorrow October 5th.  Everyone meets at the Golden Valley Library (off Winnetka by Mcdonalds North of Hwy 55)
at 12:00 noon!  We have over 40 players signed up (way to go) and 15 parents (yeah!). signed up to drive.  However, we NEED 3+ additional parents to drive kids tomorrow! The success of this fundraiser is a numbers game.  The goal is to have 2-3 kids per car.  The more cars out there, the more neighborhoods covered!  When there are 3-5 kids in a car we lose ground we can canvass.  Of the 15 drivers only 11 are available all day.  Any amount of driving is requested.
PLEASE sign up if you can help drive tomorrow.
You'll notice I've outlined potential  tournaments for all teams on the sidebar.  These tournaments, our practice fields, indoor practice space, scholarships, final banquet activities and more are 100% dependent on fundraising dollars brought in.
Players:
* WEAR HOPKINS ULTIMATE jerseys, sweatshirts or pinnies.
*Bring your own phone charger and pen please.
* Dress Toasty Warm and in layers.  Check the forecast in the morning. The weather will be similar to today.  Hats, gloves, sweatshirts, jackets.....

Pizza and awards party starts at 6:10 at HHS cafeteria.  All participants get 'cash bag grabs' including parents!

Wendy Shear will be in charge (also driving!) along with Stephen Elias and Jon Frank. I'm out of commission for a couple of days :-(.

Good luck!  Have fun!  And remember.... We accept donations big and small!

This week in the World of HUrt

Hi all,

For those of you who signed up for Canada, please make practice this week a priority.  I will be talking about the teams, how to pack, and taking team photos for both a Black and Silver.

Varsity Tryouts are in full swing.  There were several players unable to attend Exit 69, so tonight (Wednesday) will be a normal tryout.  Thursday we will also have a tryout, but I will be making the first round of cuts throughout the practice.  If you have questions, please come talk to me in person - because your ultimate career is your responsibility.

Practice is still on for all other boys and the ladies (obviously).

As we get into true fall weather, please remember to dress toasty warm.  Bring layers, rain gear, bug spray, and anything else you might need to stay warm, dry, and sane.

Another Blitz is on for this coming weekend.  If you have not yet signed up, please make sure you have a reason (not an excuse) and have communicated that to Debbi or Wendy.  These fundraisers can make or break our season, and participation is mandatory for all players.
