Practices

Formal practices will be starting up next week. We expect a large number of players, so "formal" is somewhat of a relative term. Our first practice begins at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6. We have the park until we run out of daylight, but practice will probably wrap up around 8:00 p.m., though you'll be free to stick around until it's dark.

Here's an interactive map to the location: Burnes Park. And a static map for those unable or unwilling to click the link:

Burnes Park

Practices will be every Monday and Wednesday at Burnes Park at 5:00 p.m. until further notice.

Organizational Meeting Scheduled! Car wash too!

We have scheduled the organizational meeting for Oct. 1st. There we will give new players the low down on what Hopkins Ultimate is all about and additional: order jerseys, collect dues, inform parents as to practice, game, and tournament schedules, and probably lots of other fun stuff. Basically, this is something you don't want to miss, so put it on your calendar and tell your friends. New and prospective players are welcomed and encouraged to come.

Lastly, we have scheduled a car to help raise funds for the 06-07 season. It is to be held at Mike Bauers Texaco, on Baker Rd and Excelsior, from 10am-4pm. All old and new players are welcome and encouraged to come an volunteer, be it washing cars, carrying signs, or selling goodies. Please come and make sure to tell a friend. Last year we raised over $1000, we can definitely top that.

Zips Tips and Other Great Ultimate Advice

From former HUrt Captain Michael Arenson:
I was just looking on the brown website and saw a link called "zip's tips". What he writes is interesting and seems like it would be very helpful. If nothing else, read 19 May 03: mental game [from Paul Greff] . Would one of you forward this onto carl (I dunno his email)...he may want to do something like this for our website or even copy and paste some of the things Zip says...go to:

And there are other ultimate resources out there as well. I'd recommend these, to start:

HUrt Players make a gold medal showing at Worlds

For those of you who don't keep up on ultimate news, the World Junior ultimate championships (WJUC) wrapped up this week. Youth from all over the world gathered in Boston, MA to shoot it out for the Gold Medal. A number of HUrt players tried out for the team, an accomplishment in itself, most succesful, however were 2006 graduates and Hopkins HUrt captains, Yossi Kakou and Ben "Hollywood" Feldman.

Yossi, known for his pin point hucks, played for the Israeli team and lead them in scoring, playing a pivotal role on the mid-east team. Feldman played an equally important role to bring team USA to its second consecutive gold medal victory. He played extremely well, with the third most scores on team USA and fifth overall, he was a recieving powerhouse.

Captain's Practice; Huge Success

We had our first captain's practice tonight and it was a huge success! I didn't count all the kids but Greg told me there were over forty! It was really cool. We focused mostly on having fun for our first gathering of the '06-'07 season.
After a quick warm up we broke into two groups and did a few drills. Then Greg took half of the kids and did throwing while I did a huck drill. After that we were able to break into four teams! Four teams! We then just scrimmaged for the remaining time.

I am speechless as to how to respond to this practice. It was amazing, the level of new talent, the amount of kids who came, it was just phenomenal. I can't imagine how many people will come when real practices start.

I'll see everyone on Wednesday.

Captain's Practice

We are going to get captains practice rolling here. The first one is Monday, August 14, 7:00PM, at Lindberg field. There will be another that Wednesday at 7:00PM and another on Saturday at 12:00PM. They will continue every Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday until we officially get the season rolling.

It is going to be a lot of fun with pretty big emphasis on scrimmaging.

Tell anyone you know who would be interested. Try and recruit as many people as you can.
