- The carpool will depart from Lindbergh at 4:45pm. - Parents and players: please email Chandler Taylor or post in the comments if you (1) need a ride, or (2) can drive and have room for X additional players in your vehicle.
This is the final list I have of players planning on traveling to Madison this weekend. Please let me know if you are on the list and shouldn't be, or aren't on the list, and should be. This is the list I will make carpool assignments from so I need to know, by the end of the day Wednesday, if there are any changes.

As of 9AM today, the rain is supposed to continue all day with temperatures in the low 40's. However, our game will be played unless we receive notification that the fields are not in order.
This is just a reminder of your responsibility to dress toasty warm and to check the blog periodically throughout the day for any last minute schedule changes.
Update (12pm): The game has been postponed due to poor field conditions in Eden Prairie. Instead, (conditions permitting) we will have practice at Lindbergh from 6:15 to 8:15. We will work with the Varsity to ensure the fields at Lindbergh are OK.
The makeup vs. EP is tentatively scheduled for next Tuesday, 5/3 at Lindbergh.
I know everyone is excited for all of the details about our trip to Madison this weekend for the Madison Mudbath Tournament. We are in the process of finalizing carpool and housing assignments. Plan on leaving between 3:15 and 3:30; we will post a final time with all the other final details in the next day or two.
There will be NO FEE for this tournament! The fundraising money that you all have worked to earn is going to pay for everybody. This way all three teams have an opportunity to benefit from the efforts. Your host family will provide breakfast, and there is a dinner Saturday night hosted by the tournament. Plan on bringing money for other meals and snacks, and anything you might want to buy at the tournament.
Thank you to everyone who has already worked or signed up to work at the Cub Foods wagon for our fundraiser. We can still use a few people this week, and the next few weeks have spots available as well. Please check your calendar and sign up for an open shift. Remember, every family must work at least one(but we'd appreciate more!)and if you don't sign up for a shift, one will be assigned to you. The calendar can be found here .
The JV game vs. Eden Prairie B has been confirmed for tomorrow (Tues, 4/26) at 6:00pm at Round Lake Park in Eden Prairie.
- The carpool will depart from Lindbergh at 5:00pm. - Parents and players: please post in the comments if you (1) need a ride, or (2) can drive and have room for X additional players in your vehicle. - If you are not participating in the carpool, please arrive at Round Lake Park and be ready by 5:30 for warmups. - According to MNHSUL: "Please park on the South side of Eden Prairie High School and use paths into park."
The Taylors will be monitoring the comments to ensure rides and drivers are properly matched. We will follow a similar procedure for Thursday's away game at Spring Lake Park.
We will be posting more details very soon for our trip to Madison, but plan on leaving @3:00-3:30.
Parent drivers; we have reservations at the AmericInn, Madison West. This hotel is located just a few minutes from the field. I will send an email out to all of you in the next day with details.
Erin's note 4/24: Details for Mudbath are Club-wide, that includes Boys Varsity, Boys JV and Girls. We are still settling some final details, please rest assured that we will post as soon as we can.
A few notes for those of you attending the JV game at Orono. Tallis and Shira will meet you at the game.
1 - To my knowledge, there is no pre-arranged carpool. However, interested players and parents can meet at the Lindbergh parking lot for a 5 pm departure. The trip to Orono is approximately 20 minutes without traffic. Please leave by 5pm to ensure enough time for travel and warm-up.
2 - Here is a link to the field where we played last year. It's the first parking lot north of Wayzata Blvd on Crystal Bay Rd. Some drivers had difficulty finding the fields last year, as the Orono school campus is rather large. I have reached out to the Orono contacts to make sure the location has not changed.
3 - Following the game, there will be a dinner for players and parents at a yet-to-be-determined restaurant.
I know you guys all talked about the two afternoon shifts at Cub tomorrow, but please post which shift you will be there...3:00-4:30 or 4:30-6:00 so we know who to expect for each time frame. Please make sure it's somewhat balanced between the two shifts.
They are anticipating that the store will be very busy with people shopping for Easter, so you should have lots of customers...the tips should be good!
I've posted pictures from last weekend's Varsity tournament on a shutterfly website I started last year. I'll try to get other pictures I've taken recently, up there soon! To access the site, click http://hopkinshurt.shutterfly.com/. You can download pictures or order them from Shutterfly if you're interested.
Hey JV - here's what's new on the competition front:
1 - League game vs. Eden Prairie B has been rescheduled for Tuesday, 4/26. 6pm as usual. Location is TBA, but be prepared for a road game. The game will be at Eden Prairie unless it is hosting a girls' league game that day.
2 - We have a decision to make regarding a tournament opportunity. Bids are due soon for the Granite City Classic, held in St. Cloud on May 14/15. We have attended this tournament regularly in the past, and we would like to do so again this year. However, unlike prior years, this tournament will fall on a 3rd consecutive tournament weekend (following Mudbath and the Hustle). The Varsity will be at Westerns this weekend.
This is a well-run tournament, is fairly close to home, and features great JV-level competition for us. Before we submit our bid, the coaches want to solicit feedback from players and parents. If there are no objections or concerns, we will submit our bid by the end of the week. Please post your thoughts in the comments, or contact a coach directly if you would like to discuss.
Varsity players going to Pennsbury, An email went out to your parents about the travel details for this weekend - please email semekler@gmail.com if you need the information again (especially about departure from the HS - be early!)
Pick up from school-Please meet at the front door of the school at 1:30 to carpool to the airport. Sara is driving and Benny and Danny's mom's are also driving, so we'll have room for everyone. Make sure you've been excused from class early enough to be out front at 1:30.
FlightsDepart 4/15 at 3:25pm, flight 1588, arriving at PHL at 7:05. Return on 4/17 from ABE, flight 4023, departing at 7:09pm. Layover in Detroit, depart again at 9:50, arrive MSP at 10:41pm.
Packing Your standard kit (jersey/tights/cleats), plus: a reusable water bottle, socks and more socks, layers (the weather is pretty varied this weekend, be toasty warm regardless), rain gear (trash bag, hat, rain jacket etc.), snacks - there will be a "snack tent" but if there is a particular snack that gets you through, bring it, Photo ID, Liquids policy try for one carry on + a backpack (your personal item). If you're planning on checking a bag - the extra cost is on you, and you need to tell Sara before we leave the HS.
Meals Please be prepared to pay for your dinner on Friday night when we arrive in Philly, and Sunday night when we eat at the lovely Detroit airport.
Questions? Talk to me tonight at the game, or call me. Erin 952-484-7316
MB Update (4/15) - Tuesday's game will be rescheduled yet again. Stay tuned.
Sara says~we are aware that this is the second night of Passover. The coaches will be checking on availability, at practice on Thursday night, to see if we have enough players for a game. If you won't be at practice please post your availability.
We have received confirmation from Eden Prairie on a rescheduling of the JV's league game. It will be held next Tuesday (4/19) at 6:00 pm. The game will be held at EP's home field, Round Lake Park. A note for drivers is listed on the MNHSUL website:
"Please park on the South side of Eden Prairie High School and use paths into park."
This makes two road games for us next week. Please plan accordingly, allowing plenty of time for travel and warm-up prior to game-time.

Please let me know if you are NOT on this list and you would like to attend.
We also spent a lot of time discussing the Hopkins Husel tournament. Because of many of the ladies concerns about prom it is unlikely that we will attend. But it is not out of the question. We will have a final on this soon.

For those of you that have communicated to me that you will be unable to attend….THANK YOU! I will be sure to send you information that you missed at the meeting. See you girls tonight! ONCE AGAIN, I WILL ANSWER TO A POST REGARDING OUR MODE OF TRANSPORTATION TO MADISON. THE ONLY REASON A BUS WAS USED LAST YEAR WAS BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THERE WEREN'T ENOUGH PARENTS GOING, TO ACCOMMODATE ALL THE PLAYERS. PLAYERS WILL BE ASSIGNED TO A SPECIFIC CAR SO THERE IS NO CONFUSION FOR PARENTS OF PLAYERS. IT IS EVERY PARENT'S CHOICE WHETHER OR NOT THEY WANT THEIR CHILD TO ATTEND. WE HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHAT'S RIGHT FOR THE TEAM. YOU GET TO MAKE THE DECISION ABOUT WHAT'S RIGHT FOR YOUR INDIVIDUAL PLAYER. IF YOU'VE READ THE POST ABOUT CUB FOODS YOU'LL SEE ALL OF THE DIFFERENT PLACES OUR FUNDRAISING MONEY HAS GONE THIS YEAR. WE WOULD NOT BE SPENDING IT FOR THE BUS; PARENTS WOULD BE. IF ANYONE HAS ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS REGARDING THIS ISSUE, PLEASE CONTACT ME AT SEMEKLER@GMAIL.COM OR 612-817-7997. DO NOT WRITE ANY MORE COMMENTS, AS I AM DONE ANSWERING ON THE BLOG.
ADDENDUM~THERE WAS A QUESTION POSTED REGARDING OUR DECISION TO DRIVE TO MADISON RATHER THAN USE A COACH BUS. FIRST OF ALL, THAT IS NOT A DECISION MADE BY THE COACHES, BUT BY THE BOARD. SECONDLY, WE TRIED TO MAKE IT CLEAR IN OUR ORIGINAL POST THAT WE WOULD BE DRIVING IF WE HAD ENOUGH PARENTS INTERESTED IN GOING. THIS TRIP IS USUALLY DONE AS A DRIVING TRIP. A COACH BUS FOR THE WEEKEND WOULD COST OVER $3000.00 AND WE FELT THAT IF WE DIDN'T HAVE TO SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY, WE'D RATHER NOT. AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW, THE TEAM WILL BE FUNDING THE MAJORITY OF THIS TRIP FOR EACH PLAYER, MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR EVERYONE TO BENEFIT FROM OUR FUNDRAISING. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, YOU CAN CONTACT ME AT semekler@gmail.com
WE HAVE MADE THE DECISION, FOR MADISON, TO CARAVAN WITH PARENT DRIVERS. WE HAVE BETWEEN 8-10 PARENTS TRAVELING WITH US AT THIS POINT AND PLENTY OF SEATS FOR ALL WHO WANT TO ATTEND. FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF ALL THE VARSITY AND JV PLAYERS WHO RESPONDED TO THE EARLIER POST ABOUT ATTENDING MADISON MUDBATH. PLEASE POST IN THE COMMENT SECTION ONLY IF YOUR STATUS HAS CHANGED~IF YOU ARE LISTED AND ARE NO LONGER PLANNING ON GOING, OR IF YOU AREN'T LISTED AND WOULD LIKE TO GO.

If there are any other parents who would like to travel with us who haven't already heard from me, please leave a comment as well and I will contact you. This is a great opportunity to be a spectator at an away tournament without having to go too far away!
The calendar for the Cub Foods shifts is now up and running. The shifts are every Thursday from 10-2 and from 2-6. I've already put all of the people who signed up at the spring meeting on the calendar. When you sign up please put your name and email or phone number in an open slot. You will receive a reminder a few days ahead of time.
Sign up herePLEASE REMEMBER IT IS NOW A REQUIREMENT THAT EACH FAMILY WORKS AT LEAST ONE SHIFT; THIS CAN BE THE PLAYER, PARENT, GRANDPARENT, OR EVEN BETTER, WORK A SHIFT TOGETHER! WE ARE EXTREMELY GRATEFUL TO THE VOLUNTEERS WHO WORK MULTIPLE SHIFTS~WE COULDN'T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU! IF YOU DON'T SIGN UP FOR ASHIFT YOU WILL BE ASSIGNED A SHIFT. IF YOU AREN'T ABLE TO WORK YOUR SHIFT, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND SOMEONE TO WORK FOR YOU. WE WILL ESTABLISH A LIST OF PLAYERS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN "SUBBING" IF YOU WANT TO HIRE SOMEONE TO WORK YOUR SHIFT. YOU WILL NEED TO PAY THEM $7.50 AN HOUR/$30.00 PER SHIFT.
WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE BEEN GIVEN THIS OPPORTUNITY ONCE AGAIN, BUT IF WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH VOLUNTEERS TO STAFF THE WAGON EVERY WEEK WE WON'T BE ABLE TO CONTINUE.
THE MONEY WE'VE RAISED HAS ALLOWED US TO LOWER THE REGISTRATION FEE FOR THE 2010-2011 SEASON. PAY FOR PART OF THE TRIPS TO WINNIPEG, DULUTH AND CHICAGO. PAY ENTRY FEES FOR THE GIRLS U OF M AND THE JV ST JOHNS TOURNAMENTS. OFFER SCHOLARSHIP DOLLARS TO NEW AND RETURNING PLAYERS. HELP THE VARSITY TEAM TRAVEL TO PHILADELPHIA AND OREGON THIS SPRING AND FUND A LARGE PART OF THE TRIP FOR EVERY PLAYER GOING TO MADISON MUDBATH THIS YEAR. PLEASE BE GENEROUS WITH YOUR TIME SO THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO OFFER THIS KIND OF ASSISTANCE TO OUR TEAM IN THE FUTURE...IT BENEFITS US ALL!
*PLAYERS, IF YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR NAME ADDED TO THE LIST TO WORK THE FOOD STAND IF SOMEONE NEEDS TO HIRE A "SUB" THIS SUMMER, PLEASE POST WITH YOUR AVAILABILITY.
The JV captains are holding practice tomorrow at Lions Park from 2-4pm. Another great opportunity to tune up before our first spring league game. Be there!
Parents, last minute request for tomorrow morning...we found out that we will be starting the
food wagon tomorrow, and I could still use one or two volunteers for the 1st shift 10-2
I am making a new interactive calendar that I will put on the blog soon so people can sign up for available shifts.
Please remember the new requirement that each family works at least one shift. This can be the player, parent, grandparent, whoever you choose. If you didn't already sign up for a shift at our spring meeting, please sign up when the calendar is available. Any family that doesn't sign up will be assigned a shift. I am in the process of putting together a list of team members who would be interested in "subbing" once school is out if you can't work your shift. If you choose to use one of the subs, you will be required to pay them $7.50 an hour, or $30.00 per shift to take your shift for you.
Please email me at semekler@gmail.com if you can work tomorrow.
I just received a call from Eden Prairie and their home field will be unplayable for Thursday's league game. Both coaching staffs are working to find a suitable replacement field so the game can be held as scheduled. Please watch this post for updates over the next 2 days.
If you can help out with any of the following, please email Sara (semekler@gmail.com) by April 15th.
- set up or take down of the tournament (marking fields, cones, tournament central) - help putting together team packs - activities during tournament play (refilling water, updating scores) - hosting teams that need housing - administrative help and volunteer coordination - Hustle Potluck (making something for, or helping set up/serve/clean up dinner on Saturday)
We are hoping to get an outdoor practice this week at Lions for Varsity.
Today isn't going to work (rain/ice/field) - but please keep an eye on the blog in the event that we are able to schedule a practice for Wednesday or Thursday.
I know spring break is starting in the next few days. Have fun! Try to throw, catch, and workout consistently. League games start the week of April 4th.
Since we have two teams traveling this weekend at tournaments, we will not be having practice on Sunday.
If it as nice up there as it was in Chicago today, throw outside with friends. Go get better -league starts in two weeks.
You can follow your brothers on Twitter.
Erin
(Chicago Invite update: HUrt finished 2-2 today and goes into Sunday brackets ranked 3rd in the tournament behind Holy Family Catholic (Ohio) and YHB (Virginia). First game is at 9am tomorrow against Como Park. Conditions were really nice for the first three rounds until a steady cross wind crept up for the crossover round. BTW the TD is also tweeting @luketimjohnson with #chiinv)
IF YOU ARE PLAYING IN THE ST JOHN'S TOURNAMENT THIS SUNDAY, YOU NEED TO BE AT THE LINDBERGH CENTER PARKING LOT AT 11:00 a.m. READY TO GET INTO ONE OF THE 4 CARS THAT WILL BE DRIVING PLAYERS BACK AND FORTH FROM THE TOURNAMENT. THE PARENTS WHO ARE DRIVING ARE THE COUSINS, PAVELKAS, SHEARS AND COHENS. THESE PARENTS HAVE GENEROUSLY OFFERED TO BRING PLAYERS DIRECTLY HOME AFTER THE TOURNAMENT. PLEASE BE ON TIME SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO WAIT FOR ANYONE.
For those going to St Johns this weekend, you can see the schedule below. Our first game is at 1:15pm, so please be at the gym ready to warm up at 12:45 (there is a game before ours, so the gym will be open). We have guaranteed games at 1:15 and 2:30, and then our record after those games will determine the playoff games we play in. We will play 4 games for sure.
Schedule:
1:15 - 2:30 (Mahtomedi vs Hopkins JV on field 1/Southwest vs Edina on field 2)
2:30 - 3:45 (Cathedral vs Hopkins JV on field 1/CDH vs Edina on field 2)
3:45 - 5:00 (A2 vs B3 on field 1/B2 vs A3 on field 2) Playoff Round 1
5:00 - 6:15 (A1 vs winner of playoff round 1 from field 2 on field 1 /B1 vs winner of playoff round 1 on field 1) Playoff Round 2
7:30 - 8:45 (Loser of playoff round 1 on field 1 vs Loser of playoff round 1 on field 2/ Losers of playoff round 2 on field 2) Playoff Round 3
8:45 - 10:00 (Winners of playoff round 2 on field 1) Championship round
In the playoff round that we have a bye, we can all hang out at the gym and watch the other games or potentially grab some dinner/food (depending on the number of parents/drivers there).
All players should make sure to bring a light/dark jersey, water bottle(s), and some food to snack on. We will be at the gym for a long time, so you want to be prepared.
Directions:
The games all take place in The Clemens Fieldhouse, which can be seen as "X." on this campus map. The tournament directors suggested parking in Lots 11 or 6 as shown on the map above. The address for the College of St Benedicts is:
37 South College Avenue St. Joseph, Minnesota 56374
Right now we have 17 players going, with a few potential parent drivers. The Pavelka's, the Shear's, the Cousins', and the Cohen's all mentioned the possibility of driving. Some mentioned being able to take 6 kids, some can only drive one-way, so hopefully a combination of parents can get all the kids up and back. I am hoping Sara Mekler and the JV team parents (the Taylors) can help coordinate and finalize that?
Sara says~parents, I'm getting all the contact information to the Taylors so they can help you coordinate this driving, but please plan for everyone to leave from the Lindbergh parking lot. This is almost always our meeting spot for carpooling. I would suggest you plan on leaving at 11:15.
Google maps estimates that the drive from the Twin Cities takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes, so please plan accordingly. Again, all players should be at the fieldhouse ready to go by 12:45pm, so we can start warming up.
If there are any questions, feel free to call or email.
Thanks,
Coach Tallis

Given the number of responses, this roster includes anyone who responded before tonight. If you are not on the list for this weekend, there will be no practice, you have the weekend off. This tournament is the first of many for us this spring, so there will be plenty of time to get tournament playing in, if you are not going this weekend.
If you have any questions, concerns, or thoughts on this weekend or the season as a whole, please dont hesitate to ask.
More tournament information will follow in a subsequent post.
sooooo we want to do a get together for new girls and returners to have some food and some fun. I was thinking we could do it within the next week or so? What is everyone doing sunday (the 20th) afternoon? We could have lunch, play games and hang out for awhile? Please post on this and let me know if you could make it.
We got confirmation today on our bid for the St Johns Indoor tournament next Sunday, March 20th. There are more details still to come, but I want to get a sense of who is interested in going...as I said tonight, I dont know if we can take everyone to this tournament, so your practice attendance and commitment to the team over the last few months will be the deciding factor in our roster for this tournament. If you are interested in going, please post a comment stating your name, by Tuesday morning. I will post a roster of who is going on Tuesday, so that drivers can plan accordingly.
Info-
Name: St Johns Indoor Tournament
Location: The athletic facility at the College of St Benedicts (37 South College Ave, St Joseph, MN 56374)
Time: Noon-1opm
Other info: We are guaranteed 4 games. A schedule of games will be released this week, at which point we will know more information about when our games are.
If anyone has any questions, please dont hesitate to ask.
Thanks,
Coach Tallis
Sara is adding the following information~This tournament requires parent drivers. In the past some parents have driven to these these tournaments and stayed for the day, others have driven kids there, with different parents offering to pick them up at the end of the day. Please consider one of these options, so the boys can have an opportunity to get some good playing time before our spring season starts. You can post in the comment section if you are able to drive. Thank you!
All players~we need to make a decision about whether we will be driving to Madison or taking a coach bus. The factors that will determine this are how many players are attending this tournament and how many parents are interested in attending and driving. If parents are interested in coming to Madison but like the idea of taking the bus, please post this preference as well. The cost per person will increase quite a bit if we take the bus. Last year the cost of the trip was $95.00 per person with the bus. We will be funding part of this trip, for everyone who attends, with fundraising money. The amount will be determined once we know our mode of transportation and number of players.
So basically, please post if you are planning to attend, if you have a parent or parents who are planning on coming, and if they would rather drive or take a bus.
Erin's note: bids were submitted for JV, Varsity and Girls. Due to housing specifications (teams are sleeping in Madison family basements) and bus seating, please note that posting below does not mean that you are definitely going to Madison. We may have to cap rosters if the interest is too high.
Okay boys, I will be sending out an email to parents in the next day or two with details about cost and other questions they might have regarding the trip to Oregon in May, that we discussed on Sunday. As I try to put everything together it would be helpful for me to have an idea of how many of you think you would like to go to Nationals. So, even if you haven't gotten the final okay from your parents yet, please post if you are hoping to go. We will need an actual commitment by the beginning of next week at the latest.
We won't be able to go outside before Chicago, so we need to take all the space we can get before it. We have an opportunity to go to the Plymouth Dome on Friday March 11, but it would be at 10:30pm. That is the only time we can get. We need to have 14 or more people for this space to be worth our time and money. So please post in the comments if you can go to this practice so we can book the space immediately. Tell everyone on the team to post if they can go. It will be by far the most important practice of the year if we can get the people. If you can't get a ride that late, your teammates will take care of you
Update 3/10/2011 12:00 pm: Practice is on, we have enough. Now that it is a sure thing, it is mandatory. --
Remember Varsity, that we are having a potluck tomorrow before practice at 5:30. Don't forget to bring your food, and bring lots of it because we are all growing boys. No meat because we keep kosher.
Freshman/Sophomore: Entrees(pasta,pizza,new york strips)
Junior: salad and appetizers
Seniors: deserts and drinks
Please carpool if you can because we have a small driveway and very little street parking and we don't want to make our neighbors too angry.
We have the opportunity to run a JV-only practice this Wednesday (@ Kimberly Lane, 6:30 - 8:30). Since we are on such short notice, we need a commitment from 10 JV team members to make this a viable practice. If we can't get the numbers, the Varsity team will take the space instead.
If you can make practice, please post in the comments below.
Ahimsa!
Update (5PM Tuesday): JV practice is confirmed for Wednesday.
See the embedded link above for the location of Kimberly Lane Elementary. For future reference, all practice locations can be found by following the practice link under "Hopkins Ultimate Links" on the sidebar to the right of this post.
I sent a facebook invite already about this so it should be old news by now. Sunday at 5:30 before practice we are having dinner at my house 11650 timberline road minnetonka 55305. It is mandatory, no excuses. A reminder: sign up for chicago and jersey numbers if you haven't already --
We need to know now if you can go to chicago invite. It is the weekend of march 19-20 and we will depart on that friday afternoon. We also need parent drivers. SO, post in the comments if you can go, AND if you have a parent that can drive make sure to say that too. --
Tuesday - JV practice at Alice Smith at 6pm Wednesday - Boys Varsity practice at Kimberly Lane at 6pm Sunday - All team practice at 7:45pm - after the Spring All Club Meeting at 6pm
The people at WJH have closed the school for the night, so we can't practice tonight. Tell everyone you can about this, spread the word to your teammates. --
Sunday, February 20th Tournament time: 7am - 3 pm Arrival time: yet to be announced. I am still waiting for a tournament format. PLEASE keep an eye on the blog and the Facebook group for details Play 5 games 5v5 format, all women! U of M Fieldhouse (17th and University)

Going to be very fun! See you girls this weekend. My cell if you have questions 952-201-2297 ~ Alicia
If you desire a number on the back of your jersey, please tell us what you would like said number to be. Post a choice of three numbers and your size in the comments so we can get your jerseys to you asap. If you dont choose a number or size, one will be assigned to you, and nobody wants that now do they? --
Please make it a priority to attend this meeting. All Hurtems should have at least one parent there, regardless of whether they are new to the program or not.
I have sent out an email to varsity parents detailing spring travel plans. If your parents didn't receive this, please let me know at semekler@gmail.com . Please respond to that email with the decisions about which tournaments you can commit to, rather than on the blog. The sooner we hear from everyone, the sooner we can finalize plans. Thank you.
Varsity players, we are trying to put together out spring travel plans and need to get an idea of who can make a commitment to our out of town tournaments. Obviously, Paideia and Westerns are the most expensive trips and also the ones we need to plan the farthest in advance. We need to make non refundable deposits on airplane tickets, so we will not decide to travel unless we have firm commitments and DEPOSITS from anyone who plans to attend. The final cost has not been determined but airfare is very high to Portland and not that cheap to Atlanta either. Even with a substantial amount of our fundraising money being used to defray costs, expect the final amounts to be in the range of~$375.00-425.00 for Paideia and $500.00-$600.00 for Westerns. There has been some talk about a few other fundraising ideas specific to Varsity that could help lower the cost as well, but you guys would have to start working on that.
Please post as soon as possible if you are planning on traveling to either or both of these tournaments.
We need to make a decision about attending Paideia by next week in order to make our travel plans. I will need a $100.00 deposit by February 10th from each player who plans to attend if we have enough players available to make it possible for us to go.
I hate to keep posting but I still need money from the following people to order sweatshirts. I need the money upfront before buying them. If your name is on the list below please get 29 dollars to me as soon as possible. We were planning on ordering these sweatshirts before winter break and now it is after... So, if you told me you wanted a sweatshirt and have not paid (aka you are on the list below) get that money to me. Thank you.

Duluth details
Sorry for the delay guys. Finishing these details has not been a priority this week because I'm busy being a new grandma; that's right, Zach and Wyatt are uncles, so ask them about their nephew!
The final cost per player is $60.00. It was actually $80.00 last year, so this is quite a bit less. Please bring a check made out to Hopkins Ultimate Frisbee Club and give it to Todd. You will be staying at the Comfort Suites on Canal Park in Duluth. Please be at Lindbergh tomorrow morning BY 9:00am. Todd Leonard and Marni Bumsted will be driving all the players from there. You will be stopping at Tobies for breakfast/brunch on the way to Duluth, and the first game will be at 1:30. You will need to bring enough money to buy dinner on Sunday night as well, and snacks if you want them as well as a fast food stop on the way home monday night.
Marni's cell phone number is #612-749-0485 Todd's cell phone number is#612-363-2200
A few reminders about what to pack for an indoor tournament:
light (not gray) jersey dark jersey your own water bottle disc snacks (e.g. beef jerky, clif shot blocks, gu, granola bars etc.) thick socks (indoor surfaces are less forgiving than grass) 2 pairs of shoes: 1 to walk through the snow in, 1 to play in warm ups swim suit
Please talk to your captains if you have questions about Carpools etc. Thanks, Erin
On Sunday January 16 and Monday the 17th, there is a college tournament in Duluth hosted by UMD. We will be leaving on Sunday morning and play sunday night and monday morning(it's over mlk weekend so you wont miss school). We'll stay in a hotel on Sunday night. The cost will be close to $50. It will be a more selective varsity roster since it is 5 on 5. Post in the blog if you can go.
note from Erin: We also need a parent to come with us, so ask your folks!
Practices are starting this weekend. More details to come.
Sunday nights are all team practices at the West Structure at 8:30 PM. This was the only time available on Sundays, and we know it's late but it's all we've got. We have the space until 10 PM. If you need to leave early, please let a coach know at the beginning of practice.
Tuesdays will be split between teams. 6 - 8 PM at Alice Smith Elementary School, starting Tuesday January 11th.
We're figuring out one other time/day of the week, which we'll add to this post when we know.
We are nearing our indoor practice season, so keep an eye on the blog. We are finalizing most of our spring details at the Board meeting this Tuesday. I will post on Wednesday with more information.
Please remember to tell your captains whether or not you're able to attend workouts. Communication is another Hurt intangible.
Recruiting! Keep your captains aware of the recruits you're throwing with, especially for ladies - this is truly a whole program responsibility and everyone should be doing his or her part. Some ideas:
ask your gym teacher if you can teach Ultimate during a class
step 1: casual throwing with you, a normal Hurtem; step 2: casual throwing with you and a captain/experienced player or small group; step 3: try a practice & meet a coach
ever played ultimate in the snow? laying out is easy!
Keep your eye on the blog, there are sure to be updates soon about practices and tournaments. Erin
If you receive a postcard from USA Ultimate regarding dues renewal, you can disregard this! Your dues were paid for as part of your registration, and we are taking care of all the renewals for you.
2014 practices are over. 2015 practices will start in January.
Winter is for two things: -healing all injuries -getting stronger
be on the lookout for Boys and Girls workout schedules, coming soon.
All players should bring the following to every practice: cleats, a dark shirt, a WHITE (not gray) shirt, your OWN water, and a disc (if you have one). Dress for the weather. We play through all weather (if fields are playable) except thunder and lightning. Every HUrtem is responsible for being Toasty Warm, and for transporting their water/gear TO AND FROM the fields. We leave the field better than we found it

The following Tournaments and approx dates are for PLANNING purposes only! I receive many requests for tournament dates, practice days etc... for the entire year. This is quite difficult to do however, I'm trying to inform parents/players as early as possible. I do not have exact dates/times for several events Unless our participation is marked CONFIRMED our involvement is contingent on our 'Bid' being accepted. This means players signed up accurately, parents signed up accurately and their availability to provides transportation and/or chaperone at these events.
NOTE: Many changes are happening with our 'traditional' tournament format. Events we always plan to participate at during the year have changed their dates, bid process or in one case, the tournament itself may not happen this spring. We are exploring alternate options as noted below. The list below is NOT COMPLETE. It is what I have at this time. Thanks, Debbi.
