JV Info

1. The JV team will be going to a one-day tournament at St. Johns on
Saturday the 27th of January (check the calendar link to the right).
Please post in the comments by Tuesday the 23rd if you want to and
can go, unless you have told coach Russ personally. We would
apreciate a parent or two to come along (and drive). We will be
leaving around 10 am and getting back around 11pm. I will post
specifics on travel when we know who is going and driving. I will be
in Boston for this weekend, but Kelly or another coach will carry the
torch for me.

2) The JV team has a meeting set for Thursday, February 1st at Eli
Leonard's house at 7:00. We will have some snacks, but we won't be
serving dinner, so please eat beforehand.

3) Jerseys. "Many people are eager to receive their jerseys. For
those of you whose jerseys I am holding, you will have to get them
either at Wednesday practice or at the upcoming team meeting, at the
team meeting. There are also those of you who did not get in on the
first order. We are getting a second order ready, so far I have
requests from:
Daniel Raskin
Sam Bumstead
Aaron Kitchner
Andreas Moebius
Adam Rafowitz

Please respond in the comments if you need to be in the next jersey
order. Indicate your name, size and some number preferences (if you
care.)

ps. Everyone who plays at St. Johns will have a Hurt Jersey to wear,
though it may not be their permanent property.

we seem to have a good schedule, guys! that should work well for us.
this is just a friendly reminder to the players (especially if this is their first tournament) to check the website and make sure they have everything they need in their ultimate bag. especially the right footwear, extra socks, water and FOOD. yes, the concession stand will be open, but i don't think it has been food that would be good for you to eat during a tournament. this place usually has the makings for PBJs, but i don't remember much else. so go buy some protein bars, some gatorade (to mix with your water), fruit, and whatever else gets you going. (trust me, hot dogs aren't going to cut it, boys.) if you have any questions, Russ and i will both be at practice on wednesday, you can ask us then or give us a call.

for the parents:
the kids have been told again and again about Ultimate's "spirit of the game" which i think sets the sport above and beyond other sports.
"Spirit of the Game. Ultimate relies upon a spirit of sportsmanship which places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed upon rules of the game, or the basic joy of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate adverse conduct from the Ultimate field. Such actions as taunting of opposing players, dangerous aggression, belligerent intimidation, intentional fouling, or other 'win at all costs' behavior are contrary to the Spirit of the Game and must be avoided by all players."

the greatness of it is that it is not only for the players and coaches, but for everyone on the sidelines as well, and that is you! Ultimate is a game that is self-officiated by the players on the field. that means that there is no referee and even the coach can't make a call! this is a great opportunity for kids to learn the rules and to implement conflict resolution. It's also a great opportunity for parents to provide, cheer, and yell nothing but positive reinforcement for our team. i hope to meet a lot of you there!

see you saturday,
Kelley
Hopkins coach
