As for the tournament itself, first game is at 1:30 and the last game of the round robin is at 6:55. After the last game bracket play will begin at 8:15. Every player needs to bring a "Kit" to this tournament - remember that this is an indoor tournament so sneakers, not cleats.  If you do not know what a "Kit" is check the blog on the right side in red writing will explain what every Hurtem is responsible for bringing.  This is an all day indoor tournament so I would suggest bringing food to eat during our breaks and/or money in case we have the opportunity to go eat.

EXIT 69 TOURNAMENT

Upperclassmen may sign up for this coming weekend's tournament with the link below. Please look at the sign up carefully as you must sign up on each day if you're planning on being there for the whole tournament.  The players plan their own carpools, but if parents are planning on attending and driving, you may post the number of players you can accomadate if you are interested in offering a ride to anyone else.

Per our team policy, players are allowed to drive themselves to this tournament because it is just under the 50 mile limit we have set as a boundary. As always, it's then up to parents to decide if they want their player to drive/ride with players, or if they prefer to drive. We always ask that only our oldest players drive when possible, and obviously, they may only transport as many players as they have seatbelts for. The kids usually will all contribute a few dollars to the driver for gas, or buy them lunch...whatever they want to work out :-)

JV State

Please arrive at the fields in Blaine and be ready to run / stretch by 8:00AM tomorrow.  The Captain's meeting is at 8:30, and (following a few schedule changes), our first game is at 9:00.

Weather should be sunny all weekend, but will be cooler in the morning.  Layer up and shed as the day goes on.

We will start the day on field L2, and will likely be on the L fields all day.  Use parking lot E as shown on the field map linked above.

Hustle Signup and Expectations

Hey JV,

Saturday is time to HUSTLE!  Our homegrown tournament is back again for another year out on the lush fields of Maple Plain.  Please sign up if you would like to play Saturday, Sunday, or both.  Carpooling is recommended due to limited parking at the Polo Grounds.  There will be a meetup at Lindbergh on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 7:15, departing 7:25, but rides will not be formally organized.

As in past years, following games on Saturday AND Sunday, JV players will be required to sweep the fields for trash, pick up cones, etc.  Players will not be excused to leave from the tournament on either day until that job is accomplished.  Be prepared to stay late after the games (which end about 4:15 both days) and bring a change of dry/warm clothes in addition to your regular ultimate gear.

Location
Schedule / Scores

First game is at 9AM Saturday.  Please arrive at the Polo Club by 8AM and head out to field 3, which is the third field as you walk along Turner Road from the parking lot.

Hurt JV Tournament Sign-up: Face Off (Updated)

The JV Face Off is coming up next Saturday, April 21. It is a one-day tournament and is held in St. Cloud. We don't yet have any details on game times or opponents, but you can expect a departure from Lindbergh around 7:00am.

Because we have had such excellent turnouts at our league games, we may have to cap the roster for this and other tournaments. As a result, we will be more closely monitoring the tournament sign-ups.

For this and future sign-ups, I would like every member of the JV to reply in the comments with your status for the event, even if you cannot go. Just indicate whether or not you wish to attend.

For the Face-Off, please post your commitment no later than 9pm on Monday.

Update (4/17): We are in need of a few more parent drivers. Debbi Pavelka is organizing the transportation. If we get additional drivers, we will be able to take everyone who signed up on time.

JV Spring Tournaments -- Response Needed

I know spring break is upon us, but please take a minute to read this message, reply in the comments, and encourage your JV brothers to do the same.

We are looking to firm up the JV tournament schedule for this spring. Specifically, we are considering events for the two weekends surrounding Mudbath. There are tournaments in St. Cloud both weekends:

Face Off is a Saturday-only tournament on April 21. This is a B/C tournament only and has been held on Mudbath weekend in the past. This year, it is held the weekend before Mudbath.

The Granite City Classic is Sat/Sun, May 5-6. Last year, we played in (and won) the B pool of this tournament, but some players have indicated a preference to play in the varsity pool this year, as we have most other years.

We cannot commit to these tournaments unless we have commitments from players. Again, we will not submit a bid unless players express interest in the comments. We would need a minimum of 10 players for Face Off and 12 for GCC, as well as at least 3 parent drivers for each of the 3 tournament days. An official sign up will follow closer to the tournaments, but we need to know that we can field a competitive team.

Keep in mind that this schedule would include 3 tournaments over 3 consecutive weekends. Last year's schedule had the same tournaments except for the 1-day Face Off. Some of the tournaments have changed weekends, but last year's schedule did include three 2-day tournaments in a row, so you can use that as a reference.

Thanks, and have a great break.

CHICAGO INVITE

Varsity and girls team members who are playing in the Chicago Invite, please let us know in the comments section of this post. We will be leaving right after school on March 23rd, from the Lindbergh Center parking lot. We're traveling with parent drivers, and need an exact number of players in order to ensure that we have enough seats for everyone. We may rent a 12-15 passenger van if we know we'll need the extra space. PARENTS, PLEASE LET US KNOW AS WELL IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US, IF THERE IS A PARENT I HAVEN'T HEARD FROM WHO'S PLANNING ON GOING, WE NEED TO KNOW ASAP.

The team will be subsidizing part of the trip for everyone with our fundraising money, so the cost to each player will be $50.00. Please send your check to me this week or bring it to Zach at practice on Sunday. You must have it in before we leave on the 23rd.

We'll be staying at a La Quinta not far from the fields in Naperville. They serve breakfast in the morning, and dinner will be provided at the field on Saturday. We'll have field snacks, and lunch on Saturday, although you should also bring your own snacks that are specific to your tastes, as well as a reusable water bottle. You will need money for dinner on both Friday and Sunday nights, which will be at some sort of fast food along the way.

If you have any questions, you can email me at semekler@gmail.com
Mail your check, made out to Hopkins Ultimate, to;

ST JOHNS TOURNAMENT INFO

The JV and Varsity teams will be traveling separately to the tournament. The Varsity players are driving themselves, are leaving earlier, and will be staying later than the JV team. JV players are meeting at Lindbergh at 10:45 with a departure no later than 11:00; please be on time, because we will not be waiting for late arrivals! You will be assigned to a car when you arrive. The parents of all JV players should have received an email from Debbi Pavelka, JV team parent. If you didn't, please let us know so we can get you on the list. As of right now(Friday afternoon) there are just enough spots for JV players in parent vehicles traveling to and from St. Johns; it's to late to sign up at this point unless your parent is planning on driving, in which case you should contact Debbi(d.pavelka@me.com) or Sara(semekler@gmail.com). Under no circumstances may JV players ride with a Varsity player.

Please remember to pack anything you may need, and then some; snacks, extra socks, a reusable water bottle, and money if you want to buy food; it is NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ADULT YOU'RE RIDING WITH TO BUY YOU A MEAL!

Practice schedule information - Winter 2012

Hurtems, Hertets and Parents,

Now that we have all of our practice locations set, you will be able to find up to date practice information on the side navigation, both in the "upcoming events" and "Hurt Calendar" features.

We are trying to get these items scheduled as far in advance as we can.  Sunday practices, for example, are already entered into the Calendar until the end of March.  Weekday practices are dependent on coach availability, so we may not be able to set those so far in advance.

I've also added our Spring 2012 tournaments.  Some of these tournament dates are tentative.  For several of these tournaments we will be submitting a bid to attend, but our participation is not guaranteed.  This list will be updated as our bids are accepted and dates solidify.

To reiterate, it is every Hurtem or Hertet's responsibility to check the blog, most of the family checks it every day.

If you have a player that is new to Ultimate at Hopkins, please refer to the registration details in the sidebar or contact Sara Mekler.

HBTS Packing List

Hey, HUrt! So, for those of you who have never been to Winnipeg, or any other out-of-town tournament, this list will give you an idea of what to pack. As a team, we are always "toasty warm". This means that you come to the field prepared with everything you will need to stay warm and dry all day long. If you have any more questions about what you'll need, ask any of the captains or coaches at practice, and we'll help you out.

Please remember to bring $15 to Zach Mekler for your jersey.

Friday:

The bus ride to Winnipeg is about nine hours long, so you'll want to be dressed comfortably. I'd also recommend dressing in layers because you never know what the temperature on the bus will be. Bring homework, movies, pillows, blankets, and snacks (in a backpack, everything else will be going under the bus). Also, remember to have your passport and wallet on you, as we will be stopping for dinner and you will need your money.

Friday Night:

PJs
Toiletries

Saturday:
Socks, non-cotton if you have, and lots of them
Cleats, possibly two pairs (if you have them) for back up
Shoes to wear to the fields (tennis shoes are usually best)
Sweats to wear to the fields and during your Bye round
Long under armor tights (cold gear)
Compression shorts
Regular shorts
Dark and white shirt- we are getting jerseys that we will be wearing but bring these anyways
Long-sleeved under armor shirt
Windbreaker/rain coat (its supposed to rain this weekend, so be prepared)
Gloves
Hat/headband for when it's cold
LOTS OF LAYERS- if it gets cold you will want them
Ultimate bag with a disc, reusable water bottle and your own snacks(the team will be providing "field food" snacks, but bring your own if you like something special! And I can't reiterate enough how important it is to bring a reusable water bottle, or 2...we feel strongly about not buying plastic water bottles for the team this year! ...Sara)
A couple big garbage bags to put your ultimate bag in if it rains
Any other gear you'll need (pre-wrap, tape, inhaler, etc.)

Saturday Night-

At the hotel we are staying at there is a pool and hot tub. If you are interested bring a swimsuit.
PJ's
Toiletries

Sunday-

Same clothing as Saturday and a change of clothes to wear on the bus ride home and stuff for the ride home (see Friday) We usually change right away and head home, we will not be returning to the hotel.

If you have any questions please let me know, also if you are a returning player and have advice on something else to bring please comment and let everyone know also. Get excited! This is a great tournament!

Hopkins State Schedule

Team schedules have been posted online at:

http://scores.usaultimate.org/scores/#youth-open/tournament/8789

Parents can follow scores online as games are completed, but really, wouldn't you rather be there?

Erin's note: Hurtems! home tournaments still require full KITS - learn from the tournaments you attended this year and get better. This time of year, your cleats are probably either busted or brand new - please be smart: bring a back up pair, or tools to keep your cleats together.

As Chandler said, be at the fields at 8:15 at the latest.

Thursday, May 05, 2011

Hustle this weekend

Captains meeting at 8:30, Games start at 9.
Hurtems should be there and have cleats on at 8:15 (at the latest).
The schedule is here.

Parents - we would love to see you out in Maple Plain. I suggest you bring a chair, a hat, and a rain coat. Please do not park on Turner Rd itself, pull into the parking area.

Players - This is a home tournament, so there are no excuses for forgetting important items:
both of your jerseys (your kit)
1-2 reusable water bottles
snacks like beef jerky, dried fruit, nuts, granola bars, clif shot blox, gu etc.
LAYERS (weathermen lie)
rain gear
socks, cleats
hurt/hustle temporary tattoo
swagger

Represent your team well both on the field and off, and take care of your responsibilities as Hurtem and an ambassador of the sport and our family.

Final note: unless you have otherwise indicated to a COACH, it is assumed that every Hurtem will stay on Saturday and Sunday until the fields are clean. Please communicate with a coach if for any reason you are leaving the fields during the day.

Hustle Responsibilities (JV Edition)

Hey JV,

As you should know, every HURTem will have responsibilities to ensure that the Hustle is a successful tournament. This year, the JV is charged with the following:

1 - We will need a minimum of 5 players (and one supervising parent) each morning to help with the parking lot. Your job will be to make sure the first arriving cars park in an orderly fashion. You will not miss any game time and should be released early enough to warm up with the rest of the team, but you will be required to arrive early - 8AM for Saturday's volunteers, 8:30 on Sunday.

2 - Like last year, the JV is responsible for field cleanup on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The ENTIRE JV will stay until trash bags and cones are collected, and a final field sweep has been completed. If you're fortunate, you might get to ride on a golf cart (whoo!)

Many of you have already told me about conflicts you have this weekend. If you are coming to all or part of the Hustle, please post your attendance plans/conflicts in the comments. Also, please comment if you would like to volunteer for parking duty on Saturday or Sunday morning. We are also looking for at least one parent supervisor for both days.

Thanks,

MB
