Practices are a go for this evening.

Please dress for the weather and bring layers.  All players are expected to be toasty warm and prepared for rain/cold/wind.

Parking for both fields is best behind North Jr. High.

Have fun! Get better!
Erin

GCC this weekend is ON

Hurtems,

After much discussion and rallying of parent drivers, we have decided to allow our 3 teams to attend GCC.  More information will be posted later this evening about logistics.  Expect that a mandatory meeting will take place Saturday at tournament HQ before we hit the road home.

We've been updating the sidebar frequently today with updates regarding practices tonight and make up games for the rest of the week.  As of 2pm, grass fields are not available.  We are attempting to get turf, but have not gotten confirmation yet.

We will post by 4pm (at the latest) regarding the 6pm practices.

Rain update 4/28

Just a note that CDH has decided they don't want to play us tonight at the stadium.  It's too late to try and get another opponent out here.

So, Varsity will be practicing.  There is plenty of room if anyone wants to come and throw, but our plans for a family photo/event are off.

Please keep watching the blog for updates, as I'm sure all this water will continue to effect us.

Toasty Warm.
This is why I own rain gear.

Sunday, April 27, 2014

This week in the World of Hurt

1) On Monday night, Varsity plays CDH at the HHS Stadium.  We'd love to get the whole family out to watch, and we're hoping to take a family photo!

2) You'll notice that not all our upcoming events are specific yet - that's because this week is technically the last week that rescheduled games count for conference seeding.  We're "holding" those fields for reschedules right now.  If games cannot be rescheduled for those time slots, there will be a practice for one of our teams, but we're prioritizing the rescheduled games.  We're attempting to work out the logistics as soon as we can, and will hopefully have an update for you by Monday afternoon/evening.

The JV teams will probably have to travel to:
- Cooper (Black)
- Henry Sibley (Silver)
- Wayzata (Silver)

This is the Open (boys) bye week, that means there will be no other games besides make up games this week.  Conference games start next week.  If the weather is not cooperative...we will do our best.

3) Tonight (Sunday) is the deadline for our Sign Ups for both GCC and Centrals.  As it is right now, we do not have enough players for any team for any of those tournaments.  We also don't have enough drivers.  In order to participate in tournaments, we must have a minimum of 16 players per roster and enough drivers to transport those players to their location.

I understand that there are many players/parents in transit from Madison this afternoon.  Please do everything you can to sign up on time.

REMINDERS

MAKE UP GAMES
It appears Mother Nature didn't get the memo about spring weather :-( The cold and rain have continued and another week of practices and games were, unfortunately, affected.  Be aware and watch the blog.  We have been forced to schedule make up games on days that are not normally scheduled game days.

HOPKINS HUSTLE
The signup is filling up nicely. Thank you to all that have signed up so far! We need everyone's help to ensure the tournament remains the exciting, competitive, amazing success that is HUSTLE!
Click on the sign up link, pick a time to sign up, and enjoy a couple of hours volunteering with other HUrt parents. The individual team parents are excellent resources!  Questions? Ask a team parent, Wendy Shear, or myself we are all happy to answer.  Bring family and friends~locate the field your  child's team is playing on and watch some awesome Ultimate Frisbee! Mine kids play better with sidelines full of people cheering for our teams!   Witness  "Spirit of the Game", one of my personal favorite parts of the sport of Ultimate!  See the progress  made on individual and team levels.  The growth of these kids is really amazing!

DRIVERS
Away games and tournaments rely on parent drivers!  Without ALL the parents participating we can't get the players safely to and from games/tournaments.  The signups are on the right side on  the sidebar.  There are many spots to be filled. PLEASE sign up.

REMINDER
Sunday April 27- tomorrow- is the ABSOLUTE deadline to sign up for GCC &  Centrals.
Monday May 5 is the deadline to sign up Hustle.

Thank you for everyone's help!

Debbi

Silver Game 4/24 - Cancelled

This game will be rescheduled.

Lindbergh Fields closed today 4/24

Persistent rain...check.

We are still waiting to hear about Silver's game @Sibley!

Sounds like we have a collective night off.  Home games have been cancelled/postponed.  If you can, hang out with your teammates anyway...or get caught up on homework.

Just for reference, Mudbath may very well be like this.  So think carefully about what you're packing and make sure that you're toasty warm.

Hustle - all teams - all parents.  Our home tournament doesn't work without participation.  Every member of our family will have responsibilities for the weekend.  Please sign up by May 5th.

Centrals - Girls, varsity - The number of players going to this tournament determines how much $ we owe USAU.  Please sign up by Sunday 4/27 so we can send in the check on time which is due May 2nd.

As always, if we can't get 16 players for a roster, and enough drivers to take the team, we will pull out of the tournament.

The art of packing for a flying tournament

Varsity Hurtems traveling to Paideia on Friday:

ATL weather

The timing of laundry might be important.  Think ahead!

Packing list:
- street clothes (there is a dress code for the plane, captains will tell you Thursday)
- toiletries Liquids policy
- Photo ID

- your inhaler, epi pen, or any other meds you need

- your kit (BOTH jerseys, HUrt shorts, cleats, tights, reusable water bottle etc.)
- socks
- warm up clothes (it will be brisk and dewy in the AM)
- hat/head ware, sweat bands
- a disc with your name/team written on the back in dark permanent ink
- $$, phone, charger
- old jerseys to trade (or any jerseys you sold that are going to a new home)
- pillow*
- sleeping bag*
- towel
- your best; your focus; your swagger; your happy.

Players will bring one carry on + a personal item.  The best use of these items is a duffel (rolling luggage gets awkward and can't do double duty as a field bag) and a backpack.

Pro tips:
- Use space wisely: put socks inside of cleats; roll instead of fold, bring buds instead of beats
- bring ear plugs (some of your brothers snore)
- work together: all 19 of you don't have to bring shampoo!
- separate things that smell; have to stay dry; or go together with ziploc bags.
- if you're planning to buy merch, leave space
- bring an empty cleat bag to keep things in at the host family's house
- you know what makes a decent pillow? *your warmup clothes + towel bundled together
- sleeping bag substitutes: *blanket, sleeping bag liner
- pack the essentials first.  If you have space left over, you've earned whatever else you can fit.
- peanut butter and nutella are considered liquids and will be confiscated (SIGH)

The team is bringing the standard food bag, sunscreen and bug spray.  Erin will have HUrt tats and eye black.  Here's another example packing list for a flying tournament for reference.

Parent notes:
- comfy footwear
- sunglasses/hat
- water bottle
- there are fire ants!
- this is one of the only tournaments with raised vantage points... if anyone wants to video...
- camera
- loud voices
- something to do if there's a bye round
- layers
- something to sit on if the bleachers are wet

If you didn't find what you were looking for in this really long post, please ask someone who went to Paideia last year or find Erin at the Varsity game Thursday night.

Thanks Mother Nature

Attention JV SILVER PLAYERS & PARENTS!
The game tomorrow is an AWAY game in PRIOR LAKE! In order to participate players need to sign up on the signup genius and indicate if they:
-need a ride
-have a ride
-if parent can drive others
PARENTS please signup also using the same link
You can click on the link in the upper right hand corner of the sidebar.
Carpools need to be assessed.
This is JV SILVERS 1st League Game :-).  The signupgenius gives departure times for games. Players need to be at fields 45 min to 1 hour to warm up and run prior to game time (6:00pm always unless otherwise noted).
We need many more players to fill a roster!

~ I understand parent and family work schedules are a challenge at this time of day. If parents or players (hmmm that's a better idea!)Make some PB&J sandwiches for the car! Or pick up Subway and kids can eat in the on the way if necessary.

Questions? Team parent Susan Resnick is your resource.

Thanks Silver!  Good luck tomorrow!

Debbi

Due to the snowstorm JV practice is moved to WJH tonight. This JV practice is for the BLACK TEAM ONLY! Silver will have practice at lions park or Sandburg Learning Center tomorrow. And Silvers game is still a go for Thursday. Blacks game on Thursday has been postponed and will be having practice instead.

Practice/Games this week

Hi all,

Lindbergh has decided not to open their fields until next Monday (14th).  That means we will have to go with our "back up plan" - there are indoor fields available this week.  I have posted them on the sidebar.

Individual coaches will be in touch about games.

Good morning Chicago travelers!  I've consulted with a driver out on the roads this morning and we've decided to give MNDOT a little extra time to plow the roads. CHICAGO TRAVEL UPDATE # 2

Rain☑️ Sleet☑️ Snow☑️ Minnesota spring weather at its finest.

However, the  plan, as of tonight,  is to stay on track with our departure time to Chicago.

We are leaving at 11:15am from the back of the Adath parking lot.  Please arrive no later than 11:am so that yourself and your gear can be transferred into the appropriate assigned car.

We will reassess weather and road conditions tomorrow morning and make a final decision around 9:am.

Remember to pack Toasty Warm and dry for the weekend. Pack extra garbage bags for your field gear, the ground is sure to be wet.  Might as well toss a bottle of sunscreen in your bag too !   You never know...:-)

CHICAGO TRAVEL UPDATE

UPDATE:
We all know there is winter (ugh) weather forecasted for tomorrow and Friday.  I am watching the weather closely (!!) however it's still too early to know how it will affect our travel plans.  It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway,
The safety of our players, coaches and chaperones/drivers is our #1 priority. Period!  Everyone should be prepared to be flexible for Fridays departure time to potentially move earlier or later.
Everyone traveling in the carpools should have winter gear, a filled reuseable water bottle and extra snacks (in addition to your field food) for the drive.  I'm anticipating a slower and longer drive to Chicago.
I will update again when we have more details.
Thanks !
