The art of packing for a flying tournament

Varsity Hurtems traveling to Paideia on Friday:

ATL weather

The timing of laundry might be important.  Think ahead!

Packing list:
- street clothes (there is a dress code for the plane, captains will tell you Thursday)
- toiletries Liquids policy
- Photo ID

- your inhaler, epi pen, or any other meds you need

- your kit (BOTH jerseys, HUrt shorts, cleats, tights, reusable water bottle etc.)
- socks
- warm up clothes (it will be brisk and dewy in the AM)
- hat/head ware, sweat bands
- a disc with your name/team written on the back in dark permanent ink
- $$, phone, charger
- old jerseys to trade (or any jerseys you sold that are going to a new home)
- pillow*
- sleeping bag*
- towel
- your best; your focus; your swagger; your happy.

Players will bring one carry on + a personal item.  The best use of these items is a duffel (rolling luggage gets awkward and can't do double duty as a field bag) and a backpack.

Pro tips:
- Use space wisely: put socks inside of cleats; roll instead of fold, bring buds instead of beats
- bring ear plugs (some of your brothers snore)
- work together: all 19 of you don't have to bring shampoo!
- separate things that smell; have to stay dry; or go together with ziploc bags.
- if you're planning to buy merch, leave space
- bring an empty cleat bag to keep things in at the host family's house
- you know what makes a decent pillow? *your warmup clothes + towel bundled together
- sleeping bag substitutes: *blanket, sleeping bag liner
- pack the essentials first.  If you have space left over, you've earned whatever else you can fit.
- peanut butter and nutella are considered liquids and will be confiscated (SIGH)

The team is bringing the standard food bag, sunscreen and bug spray.  Erin will have HUrt tats and eye black.  Here's another example packing list for a flying tournament for reference.

Parent notes:
- comfy footwear
- sunglasses/hat
- water bottle
- there are fire ants!
- this is one of the only tournaments with raised vantage points... if anyone wants to video...
- camera
- loud voices
- something to do if there's a bye round
- layers
- something to sit on if the bleachers are wet

If you didn't find what you were looking for in this really long post, please ask someone who went to Paideia last year or find Erin at the Varsity game Thursday night.
