JV Games this Week (4/30 and 5/1) & The Hustle

We play Henry Sibley on Wednesday and St. Paul Open on Thursday, both Home games. Be ready to go at 5:00 with your cleats on and ready to focus. Let me know if you're going to be late.

We also play one of our biggest tournaments this weekend, The Hustle. These games can pull together our team, but we need everybody to come out firing on all cylinders. Which reminds me: Max T & Deric B, I still need your UPA #s or you won't be able to play.

JV Face off postponed till may 10th?

Sorry folks, just got word of this. Due to expected weather, the organizers are trying to put it off till May 10th. Is there still interest in for that date? Enjoy your now wide open weekend.

RESCHEDULED EP GAME FOR MONDAY

We are heading down to Eden Prairie (Round Lake fields) for our league game this coming Monday (28 April). Please work with each other to carpool - and hey, I'll need a ride too.
Plan to be at the fields at 5p - we'll get in a little practice beforehand.

So this makes next week's schedule this:
SUNDAY - practice from 2:30 - 5 at Lindbergh fields
MONDAY - game at EP, be there at 5p
TUESDAY - game at Twin Cities Academy (TBD what time to meet for carpooling)
THURSDAY - regular practice from 4- 6:30p
SAT & SUN - the Hustle, baby!

JV Face Off

Here's the final Roster:

Brand Jackson
Bumsted Sam
Farrell Chris
Frankel* Jacob
Hershkowitz Billy
Hoffman Jake
Kitchener Aaron
Menzies Lucas
Rafowitz Adam
Raskin Daniel
Segal Sam
Todd Maxwell

We'll be meeting by the Lindberg fields behind the High School at 6:55 am tommorow. Bring $10 for the tournament and be on time, we need to arrive there no later than 8:30 so it's a bit of a tight schedule.

Also, eat breakfast, get good sleep, and it wouldn't hurt to stretch the night before. It will be chilly, so bring appropriate equipment to keep you toasty warm all day (rain gear, etc.) We will win the weather factor.

Again, Bring $10, or else. Call or email Coach Russ with questions (contact info in comments.)

Practice - HERt Force

Today's practice was cancelled due to poor attendance, not the weather. And since Monday's practice was also poorly attended, there will be a manditory practice this Sunday from 2:30 - 5p; be there. We have two back to back tournaments the next two weeks which you all know you are not yet ready for. Remember that you get out of this team what you put in it. The coaches are here for you, it's time to do your part.

JV Game Canceled

Our game today (the 24th) against Henrey Sibley is canceled because of expected thunderstorms. We will make up the game next Wednesday, the 30th, instead of practice.

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

JV home game this Thursday

Update: Weather looks kinda iffy (scattered T-storms), but is supposed to clear up in the evening. As everybody knows, we can't play in lightning. Check the blog for updates until 4 p.m. gameday, but the game is still on for now.

We'll be playing Henry Sibley at home (the High School) this Thursday, show up at 5 and be ready to go at 5:15.

Also, if you are going to miss a team event like a practice or a game, you should tell me the day before to preserve your attendance record.

JV Face-Off this weekend:

Updated roster:

Brand

Jackson

Bumsted
Sam
Farrell
Chris
Frankel*
Jacob
Hoffman
Jake
Kitchener
Aaron drive
Menzies
Lucas
Rafowitz

Adam

Raskin
Daniel drive?
Segal
Sam

I know there are more people interested in playing this weekend than this. Because of Prom, a lot of our older players aren't going, so this is a chance for some of you younger guys to step up. Post in the comments if you are going and if you can bring a parent to drive, we'll need a couple more.

Cost will be $10, please give to Coach Russ at practice or Thursday's game (if the game is canceled because of weather, we'll work something else out.)

We'll be leaving about 7 am from the High School and returning around 8 pm that evening. Let me know if you have questions.

JV Tournaments

Just to make sure that everybody is on the same page:

JV-Face Off - St. Cloud - April 26
This is a one day tournament for the area's JV squads, should be some great completion. Prom is also on this day, so many of our Juniors and Seniors can't make it. If you are new to the team you should try to attend. Details to follow.

Hopkins Hustle - Maple Plain - May 3 & 4
I'm assuming everybody knows about this one already, but make sure it is prominent on your calendars. We will be carpooling from the High School both days.

Granite City Classic - St. Cloud - May 17 & 18
This will be a good warm up for State. We will need parents to drive and support the team on both days.

MNHSUL State Tournament - Maple Plain - May 30 & June 1
This is the culmination of our season, and the definitive test of our team. Again, we will be carpooling from the High School both mornings.

Monday, April 21, 2008

Western Nationals

We have the final cost for Western Nationals at Independence MO.
The cost will be $200.00 (206.00 if you use PayPal) which includes your bus, fees and room.
Cost without room is $145.00. (150.00 if you use PayPal) There are those whose parents are at the hotel and may choose to have their players stay in their room. If you want a detailed breakdown of all the estimated costs go to the first comment in this posting.

LADIES UPDATE for MONDAY

Congratulations to the Mudbath women's runner-up team! It was tough to lose in the finals, but it just fuels us to work even harder as we approach our own Hustle. We came out of the weekend with a 4-2 record, with a number of new girls playing in their first outdoor tournament ever. Thanks to all the ladies that persevered through the unseasonably warm Mudbath weather with only 4 subs! We had a fantastic showing of skills by everyone, especially the new girls! Where did you get those flicks?! Despite the delayed start on Saturday due to the downpour the day before, it turned out to be a great tournament, especially with the opportunity to play out-of-town teams Denver East, Memorial and Cathedral. And thanks to all the parents who came to watch and support us, and never tired of the driving logistics, as well as our amazing host family the Boyds.

Because we never stop moving, girls will still be having practice today, with the run/warm-up at 4, and practice at 4:30. Please be prepared for practice to end early! We will be done by 6, if not before. Between just coming off a tournament and having a league game tomorrow, we don't want to totally exhaust everyone. Also, be flexible with the fields today. We are not allowed to use the HS fields 1 & 2 so we may need to move over a bit.

And, as always, please contact a coach if you will not be attending practice BEFORE it starts. It's not fair to your teammates if you don't show up for no reason. Thank you!

Varsity Practice on Saturday

Each Saturday Practice will be a little different, usually trying to incorporate a longer, more intensive practice highlighted by a scrimmage or other outside sources.

This weekend, we'll be practicing at the Twin Cities Polo Fields in Maple Plain from 1-4. There will be other games going on, as the Northwoods Sectional Tournament is being played there at the same time. If you can arrive early, or plan on staying a little late, you'll be able to see many Hurt Alums playing with their college teams in this tourney. Here's the schedule.

HERE is a map to the fields if you can't remember how to get there, and please, for the sake of your wallets and the environment, CARPOOL!!! Talk about it in the comments section.

See you at 1, and let us know if you have issues with practice.

LADIES: Girls Ultimate Prom

Please let me know in the comments section if you are willing and able to take a lead on this. Again, talk with the CDH captains at the game about working together. I'll compile a list and get it to JohnJohn. -Kell

Hello girls ultimate organizers and coaches!
So as many of you know there is increasing desire among the league here in MN and within the UPA at large to grow the amount and quality of girls ultimate here in the state. Organically, it will continue to grow at a slow rate but because we have a sizeable group of girls (4-5 on each of the top couple teams) that have taken it to the next level skill wise and a larger group of new teams and players who are just getting into the sport, several of us have decided to put together an event to get more girls out, help them learn faster, and therefore keep them coming out into adulthood.
We're going to call it "girls ultimate prom" (since clinic is a little boring) and we're trying to get each of the established teams to bring 5 players. And naturally we want AS MANY new and inexperienced girls as we can get.
We're going to do it on Saturday MAY 17th, from 2-6 which will include plenty of playing time and a BBQ. We'll do it at Nokomis Park.
Our goals include the following:
1. Spread some of the information/skill from various upper echelon teams/players to other newer teams and players. Our hope is to ask some of the better girls to help teach the skills to the newer players (with some assistance from knowledgeable adults).
2. Connect the various girls teams more together by having fun together. We'll do some skills work and have some time to do some hat-style scrimmaging but we'll also play some games to get to know each other. The plan also includes running this event from 2-6 and include a BBQ (funded by the league) at the end so there is some social element as well. It'd be great to leave feeling like the girls had some connection with other girls in the league.
3. All of the above will help the league grow (and Maintain) the new girls players in the league as well as help come summer club time.
Part of the reason for sending this out now is to get as many people committed to being there as we can. Please respond to this email with your availability. For those of you who coach teams, please let me know if you think your players can be available for this day.
The more girls that we can get there the better so please do what you can to make this happen. If all goes well we'll try and repeat this again just after the state tourney.
Thanks again for getting this off the ground. Let me know if you have any questions.
Cheers, John Sandahl

JV Practice Start on Monday

Monday the 14th the JV team will begin it's regularly scheduled spring practices. Monday and Wednesday 4:30-7pm, behind Hopkins High School.
map

We won't have a practice this week because of field and weather conditions.

Varsity Travel Friday

Please be at the Humphrey Terminal at 10:30 to check into our flight leaving at 12:17.

Weather MIGHT be prohibiting travel, so come with a good attitude, expect the worst, but hope for the best.

We are flying AirTran Flight 853 from the HUMPHREY TERMINAL.

We will land, rent minivans (Thanks to Mr. Milbrath, Mr. Gotlieb, & Mr. Brickwedde for chaperoning) and head to the O'Neill's house.

If the weather is good, we'll be playing some ultimate tomorrow night, and then having a good sleep before we rise early for the tourney.

Sunday night, we will be returning on Airtran Flight 858, landing at 12:30am.

Please plan accordingly.

Thanks, Jake

BOYS GAMES POSTPONED

Attn JV Parents: need volunteers & drivers.

Pursuant to Mike's post below, we really need adult drivers to go to get our team to Madison and back again. Parents, if you aren't busy that weekend, it would really help the team. Contact me if you are interested or have questions.

We also need parents to volunteer to drive us to our two scheduled away games:
April 10 - Twin Cities Academy (POSTPONED - TO BE RESCHEDULED)
May 8 - Hastings

I also need another parent help me coordinate these activities, to be a "team parent." I already have a volunteer who is willing to share some of the duties. Mostly this encompasses confirming rides for a given week from a list. It's not difficult, but it is a critical task.

If you can drive us to our Thursday games, or if you can help coordinate, please contact me (see comments), or post in the comments.

GIRLS - game tomorrow against EP at HOME

Ladies -

Our game tomorrow is going to be at the Lindbergh fields (instead of away at EP) at 6 pm. Please be there and ready to warm up at 5:15. Bring tape, blister band aids, extra socks, ice, whatever, for your injuries and sore muscles. I know we are all tired but we can do it!

p.s. Kelley would like us all to bring warm clothes and be ready to stay for awhile after the game to talk about this weekend. We need to go over as a whole team things we did well, things we need to work on, etc so we can practice effectively. Please try to make this work - it will not be long, but be sure you have clothes to wear!

See you there.

JV Spring info

Because our fields need some time to re-establish, we won't have official JV practice this week. Also, our first game against Twin Cities Academy has been postponed because of fields. I'm working with their coach to find an alternate time, maybe during one of our practices next week.

However, we may call an impromptu (come if you can) practice later in the week. Our First Official practice is Monday the 14th on the Lindberg fields behind Hopkins High School. Be there at 4:30, we'll go to at least 7:15.

This does leave us with a shorter time to come together, so make sure that YOU are ready to take the field. Make a small effort everyday to prepare. Do your push-ups and go running at least 3 times between now and next Monday. Read about ultimate. Go out and throw with a teammate or buddy. Take 5 minutes to visualize yourself playing.

More to come soon.

Varsity Practice - Monday

As ya'll know, we have our scrimmage at St. Thomas today. Here is the extra info you need to know.

DIRECTIONS:
-394 E
-94 E
-Cretin Ave Exit GO RIGHT
-go for 4-8 blocks and a Big football stadium will be on your LEFT
-drive past it and park in the big lot

RIDES:
meet at lindbergh parking lot at 4:15 and we'll leave at 4:30.

TIMES:
practice starts at 5:30
there will probably be traffic
we'll be there early to warm up, its toasty warm.. bring a sweatshirt or something
Likely end time is 7:30
then drive back to lindbergh

ANY QUESTIONS:
- call greg or gregg or shaps or brick (but i dont think he'll be there)

Ladies Practice Cancelled for Monday April 7th

Ladies
There is no practice tonight. Rest and take care of your injuries.
See you tomorrow.
