Varsity Sunday Info
Great work today. A little recap. We got 8 points scored on us in five games. The most being 3 in one game. Everyone played great but the youngs (eli, wex, ethan) really played well and held there own out there, giving everyone something to fear in the coming years.
AS FOR TOMORROW:
The Varsity team's first game is at 9:00 AM on Sunday morning.
Due to the lengthy drive to the fields we will be meeting at the Lindbergh parking lot at 7:05.24(seconds) AM. DO NOT BE LATE. WE WILL RUN SPRINTS. This will give us time for a comfortable drive to Maple Plain, and ample time to warm up before our first game.
Expect to drive to the polo fields when you arrive at Lindbergh, so be there with a car if you are able to.
Also, with the increase is gas prices lately, please bring money to give whoever drives you.
Our schedule for the rest of the day is posted here http://upa.org/scores/tourn.cgi?div=121&id=4817
Varsity, we have one day left, lets leave as champs. Hydrate tonight and get a good nights sleep. Get ready to go tomorrow morning.

(check out the 'Open Schedule' link down the page too)
Map & Directions
Saturday: We will meet at the Lindberg fields at 7:00, so we can carpool with Varsity. Games go till 6pm. Can somebody host a team showing of "The Karate Kid" for Saturday night? Now that's an inspirational movie.
Sunday, I expect that we'll leave the same time, 7.
Bracket: The TD needed us to play in the competitive bracket, because we are a better team than just the chump champs (and better than our ranking #). So now we have to play some varsity teams that we've beat before, and some more serious competition, aka, a real tournament. So no whining, it's unbecoming of us warriors. Bring your best and come ready for the peak of your season.

JV Practice attendance
Players, we are coming upon the end of the season and we need to make sure that we are on the same page for State. Also, it is extremely frustrating for me to bust my keister to get to Hopkins to have 6 players show up and only 2 contacting me about missing practice. >=( Please make every effort to get to practice and on time, and tell me the day before if you are going to miss (tell me that day if you can't help it, but I will grumble if it's a lame excuse.) Big thanks to those of you who make every practice, you know who you are =).
About homework, plan out your homework a couple of days ahead of time, your teachers will probably be happy to help if you ask them. Let me know if you are having difficulty in this regard.

JV Face-Off info
Be at Lindberg at 6:50 am Tomorrow morning. We'll be back in town by about 8 pm, depending on whether your car stops for dinner.
Bring $10 for your tourney fee. Bring raingear and prepare for toasty warmness. If you like food, pack a lunch (there is a lunch break, and we may be able to make a food run, but there probably won't be a concession at the fields.) And for heaven's sake, don't forget your cleats ;)
Call or text me if you have questions.

JV Away Game this Week - Thursday (5/08)
Update (bumped from below): We will be meeting at 3:20 at our practice fields and leaving for Hastings at 3:30. Please be on time, every minute later that we leave means more traffic.
We play the Hastings Huck team this week at their fields. Their captain has asked if we can begin the game by 5pm instead of 6pm, as most of their team has a Jazz band concert at 7. This would mean that we would need to meet at 3:20 and leave our fields at 3:30, it's a bit of a trek. Can we swing this? Please post if you can drive or if the time is too early for you. I'll update on the game based on the replies.
Players and Parents: Nationals information
What a great week-end at the Hustle, thanks to Mike K., Ron C. Sheri B. Ivan A. Mama Brick and the many other parents who turned out to support our players. Also, I am reminded that the players were just as involved in the planning of this event, thanks to the players who worked hard to make it a great start.
We now turn our focus towards Independence MO and 2008 Western Nationals. Players, please get your money to Ivan or Mike Schock as soon as your read this note! that means now. The cost is $200.00 or $206.00 if you use Paypal. Look to earlier posts for a break down of the costs per player. Bus ticket for chaperons is $50.00, what a bargin!
Make the checks out to Hopkins Ultimate.

The bus will leave from Adath Synagogue on Friday (this Friday) at 10 AM sharp! So, come to the Adath Synagogue parking lot directly from 1st block. Please be ready at the bus by 9:30 so we can leave town at 10:00. Bring snacks, beverage and money for meals. Plan for a 7 hour bus ride with one stop for lunch.
Also, wear clothes that you can run around in and bring discs. The coaches want to get out to some playing fields before we settle into the hotel. Did I mention that we are planning to leave by 10am?
If you drive to the synagogue, we are hoping to get permission to park our cars in the Southeast corner of the lot. More on that later.
Parents who are picking up sons/daughters on Sunday: we are planning to arrive back at Adath Synagogue as close to midnight as possible, maybe closer to 1 am.

A message from the DenverInvite host family to HERt Force players
I've been meaning to write to let you know how much Paula and I enjoyed all of the items that the girls gave us. This afternoon, we sat down for another very nice cup of tea which, once again, reminded us of the HURT girls.
I am also reminded of your visit this evening as I step into our basement where all of the girls stayed so peacefully. This evening I have all of the East High team down there playing games and dying their hair red (the East High color) before the State High School tournament begins in the morning.
The hair color reminds me of that candy apple red color that was popular on muscle cars when we were kids. Today, the state social services case workers might consider this a form of self mutilation as each person willingly undergoes the treatment (preceeded, or course, by bleaching ones hairs so the color really stands out).
Please pass on my best to the team, as well as to all of the parents.

Cost will be $10, please give to Coach Russ at practice or Thursday's game (if the game is canceled because of weather, we'll work something else out.)
We'll be leaving about 7 am from the High School and returning around 8 pm that evening. Let me know if you have questions.

Hopkins Hustle - Maple Plain - May 3 & 4
I'm assuming everybody knows about this one already, but make sure it is prominent on your calendars. We will be carpooling from the High School both days.
Granite City Classic - St. Cloud - May 17 & 18
This will be a good warm up for State. We will need parents to drive and support the team on both days.
MNHSUL State Tournament - Maple Plain - May 30 & June 1
This is the culmination of our season, and the definitive test of our team. Again, we will be carpooling from the High School both mornings.

Western Nationals
The cost will be $200.00 (206.00 if you use PayPal) which includes your bus, fees and room.
Cost without room is $145.00. (150.00 if you use PayPal) There are those whose parents are at the hotel and may choose to have their players stay in their room. If you want a detailed breakdown of all the estimated costs go to the first comment in this posting.
LADIES UPDATE for MONDAY
Because we never stop moving, girls will still be having practice today, with the run/warm-up at 4, and practice at 4:30. Please be prepared for practice to end early! We will be done by 6, if not before. Between just coming off a tournament and having a league game tomorrow, we don't want to totally exhaust everyone. Also, be flexible with the fields today. We are not allowed to use the HS fields 1 & 2 so we may need to move over a bit.
And, as always, please contact a coach if you will not be attending practice BEFORE it starts. It's not fair to your teammates if you don't show up for no reason. Thank you!

Varsity Practice on Saturday
This weekend, we'll be practicing at the Twin Cities Polo Fields in Maple Plain from 1-4. There will be other games going on, as the Northwoods Sectional Tournament is being played there at the same time. If you can arrive early, or plan on staying a little late, you'll be able to see many Hurt Alums playing with their college teams in this tourney. Here's the schedule.
HERE is a map to the fields if you can't remember how to get there, and please, for the sake of your wallets and the environment, CARPOOL!!! Talk about it in the comments section.
See you at 1, and let us know if you have issues with practice.

LADIES: Girls Ultimate Prom
Hello girls ultimate organizers and coaches!
So as many of you know there is increasing desire among the league here in MN and within the UPA at large to grow the amount and quality of girls ultimate here in the state. Organically, it will continue to grow at a slow rate but because we have a sizeable group of girls (4-5 on each of the top couple teams) that have taken it to the next level skill wise and a larger group of new teams and players who are just getting into the sport, several of us have decided to put together an event to get more girls out, help them learn faster, and therefore keep them coming out into adulthood.
We're going to call it "girls ultimate prom" (since clinic is a little boring) and we're trying to get each of the established teams to bring 5 players. And naturally we want AS MANY new and inexperienced girls as we can get.
We're going to do it on Saturday MAY 17th, from 2-6 which will include plenty of playing time and a BBQ. We'll do it at Nokomis Park.
Our goals include the following:
1. Spread some of the information/skill from various upper echelon teams/players to other newer teams and players. Our hope is to ask some of the better girls to help teach the skills to the newer players (with some assistance from knowledgeable adults).
2. Connect the various girls teams more together by having fun together. We'll do some skills work and have some time to do some hat-style scrimmaging but we'll also play some games to get to know each other. The plan also includes running this event from 2-6 and include a BBQ (funded by the league) at the end so there is some social element as well. It'd be great to leave feeling like the girls had some connection with other girls in the league.
3. All of the above will help the league grow (and Maintain) the new girls players in the league as well as help come summer club time.
Part of the reason for sending this out now is to get as many people committed to being there as we can. Please respond to this email with your availability. For those of you who coach teams, please let me know if you think your players can be available for this day.
The more girls that we can get there the better so please do what you can to make this happen. If all goes well we'll try and repeat this again just after the state tourney.
Thanks again for getting this off the ground. Let me know if you have any questions.
Cheers, John Sandahl

JV Practice Start on Monday
map
We won't have a practice this week because of field and weather conditions.
Varsity Travel Friday
Weather MIGHT be prohibiting travel, so come with a good attitude, expect the worst, but hope for the best.
We are flying AirTran Flight 853 from the HUMPHREY TERMINAL.
We will land, rent minivans (Thanks to Mr. Milbrath, Mr. Gotlieb, & Mr. Brickwedde for chaperoning) and head to the O'Neill's house.
If the weather is good, we'll be playing some ultimate tomorrow night, and then having a good sleep before we rise early for the tourney.
Sunday night, we will be returning on Airtran Flight 858, landing at 12:30am.
Please plan accordingly.
Thanks, Jake

Attn JV Parents: need volunteers & drivers.
We also need parents to volunteer to drive us to our two scheduled away games:
April 10 - Twin Cities Academy (POSTPONED - TO BE RESCHEDULED)
May 8 - Hastings
I also need another parent help me coordinate these activities, to be a "team parent." I already have a volunteer who is willing to share some of the duties. Mostly this encompasses confirming rides for a given week from a list. It's not difficult, but it is a critical task.
If you can drive us to our Thursday games, or if you can help coordinate, please contact me (see comments), or post in the comments.

GIRLS - game tomorrow against EP at HOME
Our game tomorrow is going to be at the Lindbergh fields (instead of away at EP) at 6 pm. Please be there and ready to warm up at 5:15. Bring tape, blister band aids, extra socks, ice, whatever, for your injuries and sore muscles. I know we are all tired but we can do it!
p.s. Kelley would like us all to bring warm clothes and be ready to stay for awhile after the game to talk about this weekend. We need to go over as a whole team things we did well, things we need to work on, etc so we can practice effectively. Please try to make this work - it will not be long, but be sure you have clothes to wear!
See you there.
JV Spring info
However, we may call an impromptu (come if you can) practice later in the week. Our First Official practice is Monday the 14th on the Lindberg fields behind Hopkins High School. Be there at 4:30, we'll go to at least 7:15.
This does leave us with a shorter time to come together, so make sure that YOU are ready to take the field. Make a small effort everyday to prepare. Do your push-ups and go running at least 3 times between now and next Monday. Read about ultimate. Go out and throw with a teammate or buddy. Take 5 minutes to visualize yourself playing.
More to come soon.

CUB FOODS FUNDRAISER
we are doing a fundraiser at Cub Foods.
We'll take all the help we can get, guys or girls.
When: Saturday, March 15
Time: 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Where: The Cub Foods in Minnetonka at Highway 7 and 101.
The way it works is we go in and set up a booth at the exit and just
help people bag their groceries.
We make money by accepting tips and donations from people (we will
collect these at the booth).
We will need 4-5 people working at one time
Shifts are organized as follows:
Shift 1: 10:00-12:30
Shift 2: 12:30-3:00
Shift 3: 3:00-6:00
Just post a comment in the comment section with your name and the
shift(s) you would like to work.
Feel free to work more than one shift.
Make sure you show up about 10 min. before your shift.
It would be nice if we could have one or two parents there to stand at
the booth
so the kids can concentrate on bagging, and if anyone has a cash box
we can use
just leave a post in the comment section or bring it Saturday.
Other groups that have done this typically make about $1000.
P.S. If everyone could wear their jerseys (black preferably) that
would be great.
Feel free to call me with any questions.612-889-1339
Thanks,
Loecken

HERt FORCE NOTICE:
Denver tix are being bought today. Coaches Jeanine and Lou are attending with you.
Mudbath is a no-go for us this year. But we got great contacts with the Stolaf team this past weekend, so plan on going to Northfield for scrimmaging that Sunday, 20 April. Look for further posts regarding this weekend.
Also look for a further post regarding a team meeting the week you get back from spring break. This meeting will consist of Xs and Os (so bring paper and writing implement) and another round of the Rules Test, so find your books.
A note on our Duluth tournament: I hope the girls had as much fun this weekend as I did. We had individuals step up and show some skills i think even they didn't know they had! But now we all know it and will be looking to them for leadership and filling out the depth of our team. A shout-out to Jey-Day, Peazles, and Chatty Kathy for calling lines and plays, and also to ChattyKathy and Laurel for receiving the "Step-Up" and "Focus" awards, respectively. This tournament has made me even more excited to see what this team can do the rest of the season!
